Pelican Lake weather update. We’ve had a rough week of weather. We had 5 straight days of high winds and then a couple days of drizzle. But this afternoon the water calmed down and the skies started clearing out. After almost a week of not having good sunsets it made me really appreciate tonight. Fishing has been okay. Mia from Colorado landed a beautiful bluegill tonight!

Trolling motor hack-“My battery doesn’t work!!!” About the once or twice a week someone tells me their trolling motor battery isn’t good. The symptoms are usually something along the lines of I charged it all night and after 90 minutes of running it on level 4 it won’t go. My experience has been that 99% of the time the problem is not the battery. It is fishing line around the drive shaft. It doesn’t take much, and fishing line in the water is really hard to see-but super easy to drive over with your trolling motor. Once you get a little line around the prop it eventually works its way into the little gap between the prop and the motor. Then it starts to tighten. And the more you run, the more it tightens. Soon your drive shaft can’t spin and as hard as you push the foot pedal, no matter the speed your battery runs out. For our boats, we take the props off every week and clean out line. But if on a Tuesday(or any other day of the week) you feel like your trolling motor battery isn’t lasting, just ask Brock or me to take a look. Takes less than 3 minutes and we will have your trolling motor drive shaft cleaned off. You will be amazed at how much better it will run.

Chase got his first ever walleye last night!!! Last night the temps cooled a little, it was windy and overcast so of course we went out for some walleye fishing. Chase is getting very good at bass and bluegill fishing but had never caught a walleye-until last night! Chase also landed a pike and Kasey and I were also able to land some walleyes. Super fun evening on Pelican Lake.

Aurora Alert!!! Northern Lights are forecasted for tonight. Strong canibal CME inbound. A canibal CME is when multiple CMEs(coronal mass ejections) leave the sun in rapid succession nd they end up grouping together due to strong inner magnetic fields. When a canibal CME strikes our planets magnetic field it usually ends up with stronger than average auroras. If tonights prediction holds up, stronger than normal northern lights should be visible in northern states. Remember, if you want to see the northern lights, darkness is your friend! Up here the moon will rise a little after midnight, so our darkness time will be from a little after 10 pm till just after midnight. Skywatchers, look to the skies!!!

This morning when I went down to the dock I was greeted by thousands of dragon flies. Not dozens or hundreds, literally thousands. Awesome sight! I bet the top water bass fishing will turn on next week.
