Next summer, Thornton Family Campground will be celebrating our 10th season, and we want to do it by bringing the family back together.

The Family Reunion

We’re inviting all past and present Thornton Family Campground campers and their families to come back for a weekend together.

So many of you believed in this place when it was nothing more than an idea, and over the years you’ve helped shape the campground and the community it has become. One of the best parts has been watching families grow, kids grow up, friendships form, and ten summers of memories pile up along the way.

So we’re planning a weekend of live music, food, campfires, s’mores, activities, old friends and plenty of time together.

Former campers who would like to bring an RV and stay for the weekend will be welcome too. We’ll share information later about temporary camping accommodations and how to reserve a spot.

For now, just mark your calendars.

The first seasonal opening for the 2027 camping season is now available.

Site 40 is officially open for reservation in Orrington long the shores of The Penobscot River!

As the first reservation for the 2027 season, you will also have first choice of any additional seasonal sites that may become available before the season begins. If another site better fits your family, or if we release new sites, you will have the first opportunity to move before they are offered to anyone else.

At Thornton Family Campground, we are building more than a campground. We are creating a place that feels like your own personal camp, a summer home where neighbors become friends, kids spend their days riding bikes, fishing, swimming, and making memories, and families look forward to returning year after year.

We are a 100 percent seasonal campground. There are no overnight rentals and no constant turnover of campers. Instead, our campground is made up of families who return each season, take pride in their sites, and become part of a close knit community.

A dock, a beach, a quiet shoreline.
