This room turned out better than I expected! The brick was in rough shape so we decided to sheetrock the whole room. This room is our smallest option but still has comfy feel to it. It closely resembles a hotel room with just a mini-fridge and microwave. But nonetheless it’s beautiful to me! 😍

The Kitchenette room is so visually interesting! With the original brick, white trim, wood barn door and shelves made from the original lumber! 😍
It was so fun to create this space, I absolutely love how it turned out!

We have officially hosted our first guest! Everything went as smooth as could be. They decided to book “The Suite” and I have a feeling it will be the fan favorite.

After the framing was finished and we fixed the roof, we were all set for insulation and drywall. The drywall getting delivered through a second story window was interesting to watch! After the walls were up and primed we set cabinets, had flooring done, then trim and final painting! It has been one hell of a ride and we are so excited to show them to you!

A large portion of the project was making sure it was SAFE to host people and making a building built in the 1880’s compliant with 2023 standards. That included building a second fire escape which was no small task. If you notice in picture 1 the hallway ended in a small room that was one of the first bathrooms on the second story. From the outside it was a weird “jut out” in the building with a random window that had been covered over. We planned to use this space and build an additional staircase that would require a new roof to allot proper headspace to descend the stairs. This requires cutting a hole in the original wall and framing in a new roof. At this time we also re-did the original roof.

Demo-ing was a large part of this project! I had no idea the plaster was a mixture of lime, water, sand and animal hair! There were seriously hairs in the plaster we removed! I can’t imagine the lengths the original builders must’ve gone through to hang the ceiling joists as well as every lath board we pulled. I AM glad to be able to re-use some of the original lumber for fun projects that we’ll preview in future photos 😉. After we were able to see the true bones of the second story, the actual construction process began. Framing, rough plumbing and rough electrical elements bringing our vision to life.

Under the floor of the second story we found the original ceiling of the first story which was that beautiful tin.
The ring on picture 2 is where the dentist chair (picture 7) sat. The floor was leveled with old newspapers, which was a lot of fun to delicately read and look through! We will have cut out of the newspapers in picture frames. The other photos are the original walls which was all dimensional lumber then the blueprints and planning process!
We have been able to use some of the original lumber to make a sliding barn door and floating shelves. It brings back some of the rustic charm ❤️

Once the clean out was finished, demolition could begin! That’s when we discovered the original brick wall under all the lathe and plaster. One trash can full at a time Colton removed the large and plaster while I was planning the layout.
