MarDon Resort Fresh News – August 19th, 2026

Summer may be coming to an end, but the best fishing is still to come. As the water levels and temps at night start to drop, the fishing will only get better and better.

Walleye – Anglers are finding small pockets of feeding walleye along the north shore of Crab Creek and around Perch Island. Reports have indicated that the walleye are starting to school up along the sharp breaks in 10 to 15 feet of water. To target these walleye, start with trolling a Macks SlowDeath or WallyPop worm harness until you locate the school, then start throwing a 3/8 oz jig tipped with a 4 to 5 inch grub and work it slowly down the break. Some anglers have reported picking up walleye early in the morning trolling crankbaits in 8 to 12 feet of water.

Bluegill & Crappie – Tis the season. This is the time we all wait for; the water level has dropped enough to force the panfish out of the dunes and start schooling up around the habitat boxes in the mouth of the center channel, in front of the state park, and around Goose Island. Anglers are trolling #5 flicker shads to locate the schools, then switching over to jigs tipped with red worms, trout magnets, or Bobby Garland baby shads.

Bass – Bass fishing has continued to be excellent. To target Largemouth bass, start the morning throwing topwater baits like frogs, spooks, or whopper ploppers. As that bite slows, transition to fishing jigs, drop shot rigs, or 8-inch or larger curly tail grubs. Lipless crankbaits and deep-diving square-bill crankbaits have been providing an exceptional Smallmouth bite. These Smallmouth are being found suspended at 15 -18 feet deep along the steep walls in Lind Coulee and along the outlet of the dam.

Trout – Anglers are still finding large trout in good numbers around the main body of the reservoir. Most anglers are pulling Macks wedding rings, cowbells, and spoons. Target 15 to 25 ft at 2.5 to 2.8 mph, and you will find some excellent specimens this fishery has to offer.

The current water level on the Potholes Reservoir is 1030.95 feet – Falling 1.44 feet this past week. Water temperatures range from 75 to 80 degrees depending on where you are on the Reservoir. As always, for more info or help choosing tackle, stop into our fully stocked tackle shop.
