One of Hayden’s best-kept secrets is map-free.

Some guests ask Eric to point them toward a favorite trail. Others ask him to share one of Hayden’s best-kept secrets. If you’re curious, ask about the Still Elder. It’s a short bushwhack through the forest to an Engelmann spruce estimated to be more than 500 years old. Standing beneath him has a way of putting both the landscape and ourselves into perspective.

Would you make the walk? Tag someone who’d say yes.

People often assume endurance events are about competition.

Spend time around participants in the Hardrock 100, the Imogene Pass Run, or the Leadville Trail 100, and another story begins to emerge. The conversations rarely revolve around pace alone. They drift toward gratitude, friendships, unexpected kindness, spectacular sunrises, lessons learned when plans changed, and the satisfaction of discovering reserves they didn’t know they possessed.

Some adventures leave you tired. The best ones leave you changed. We explore that idea in this month’s blog. Wander over through the link in our bio when you have a few quiet minutes.

Who’s the person you’d choose to share that finish line with? Tag them below.

Every great ski story begins with good decisions.

Fresh snow gets the headlines.
Good judgment gets everyone home.

One of our fav ways to experience the San Juans is alongside a professional guide who knows these mountains through every season. Snowpack, terrain, weather, route finding, changing conditions...local knowledge turns a great day into a safer one.

We’re grateful to partner with guides like Will Nunez , whose respect for these mountains runs as deep as his experience.

Want Will’s intel on Hayden? See our pinned post - thanks Will for the big love!

There is more than one way to experience the mountains.

Ask 10 Hayden guests about their fav memory, and you’ll likely hear 10 different stories. 1 guest will tell you about standing on a ridge after hiking for hours, looking across peaks that seemed impossibly distant only that morning. Another will remember navigating Camp Bird Road with friends, stopping every few bends because the scenery demanded another photograph. Someone else will talk about watching hummingbirds dart through wildflowers while reading a novel with a cup of tea, grateful they finally gave themselves permission to do absolutely nothing.

How do the mountains change yours? We’d love to hear. Tell us in the comments.

Mountains measure us by presence. Some Hayden guests are preparing for the Hardrock100 . Others are counting down to the . Families are stuffing pb&js into backpacks before setting out for Blue Lakes. A mtber is checking tire pressure. A fly angler is sorting flies. And a solitude seeker has packed three books, a fav blanket for an afternoon on Hayden’s deck.

At first glance, these people don’t appear to have much in common. Yet year after year they choose Hayden. We explored why in this month’s blog “Why We Still Choose the Hard Road” - link in bio. Who would you bring to Hayden? Tag em below.

You know those nights you wish would last another hour? This was one. Between dinner and the stars, the lodge became a band.

Michelle and Joseph had arrived with instruments, expecting to share music. Drums passed from person to person. Shakers found rhythm. Voices joined. Nobody asked who could sing. Nobody cared.

They travel writing and sharing original music for ceremonies and gatherings. This evening brought the same spirit to Hayden as an invitation to join in nature’s music.

If you’re planning a gathering at Hayden, whether it’s a leadership retreat, family celebration, or weekend with friends, we’d be happy to connect you with Michelle and Joseph to bring live music to your time on the mountain.

Life has a way of filling every weekend unless you choose one first. Bring your people. We’ll help create the weekend they’ll talk about for years.

Birthdays. Family reunions. Leadership retreats. Ski weekends. Friends who haven’t shared the same porch in years.

Hayden was built for all of it.

Tell us who’s coming, and we’ll help shape the weekend around your people. Morning yoga? We’ll bring in an instructor. Wildflower lovers? We’ll connect you with a local naturalist. Planning a backcountry ski trip? We know guides who know these mountains. Live music around the fire? We’d love to make the introduction.

Every gathering ends up looking a little different because no two groups arrive with the same story.

Reserve the whole lodge, or send us a DM. We’d love to help you dream up something your people will still be talking about next year.

One thing we’ve noticed over the years is that the meeting rarely ends when everyone leaves the table.

The conversations continues on the trail to Observation Point. Someone circles back to an idea while gathering around the fire. A perspective that felt out of reach during the morning session shows up again at dinner. Without the pressure to solve everything immediately, people begin listening differently, and the work continues in ways no agenda could have planned.

That’s one of the reasons Daniel and Eric envisioned Hayden as more than a place to stay. They wanted to create a place where people could gather with purpose, surrounded by the kind of landscape that invites fresh perspective and meaningful conversation.

Our newest blog explores why some business conversations belong in the mountains. Read the full story through the blog link in our bio.

A live update from Hayden, Monday 10pm. 💙 This has been an emotional and uncertain time for many of our neighbors due to the Gold Mountain Fire. We are deeply grateful to the firefighters protecting this place we all love.

We are safe, and the lodge has not been affected. We’re staying in close communication with guests regarding current travel conditions. If you have a reservation in the coming days, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

This photo was taken just a week+ ago during our Summer Solstice gathering beneath our beloved Still Ender tree, a 500+ year old Englemann Spruce. Today, we’re holding this land, the forest, the wildlife, the firefighting crews, and our community in our hearts.
