On Christmas Day, we had the sweetest family book with us.
I won’t reveal names but they were spending their first Christmas without their children’s oldest brother. They had lost their son.
I left them some family fun time-additions to take home. I still think of them, pray for them and hope that we have been a nice stay in their family’s time together. 🙏🏼❤️ it’s the little things, soak up every moment with your family and loved ones.

The Christian County Museum & Historical Society is getting ready for a couple of big moments this year: One is their 50th anniversary, and another is the fact that they have newly designed exhibits at their museum in Ozark.

I wrapped up an article about the history of their home — a native-stone building constructed by the community in 1934 — which will appear in the Springfield Daily Citizen, so watch for that soon. But in the meantime, I wanted to let you know about a special open house and presentation about the new exhibits. It's set for Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. It's free to attend and no tickets are required.

I also want to give a shoutout to Paul Johns, who is now the society's president and curator. Many of you know of Paul; he has long written about Ozarks history, and I've shared about him a couple of times here. But what's notable to me is that Paul was involved in the museum's early years and he's there today, helping preserve parts of a story that keeps unfolding. Thanks go to him (and so many others) for such tireless dedication in helping carry this work on into our future.

Bald Knobber Ex*****on May 10, 1889
*SW corner of the square

4 men stood trial for murder, 1 escaped. On this day, 3 Baldknobbers were executed for murder. The vigilante group initially aimed to restore law and order in Southwest Missouri. Ozark had a population of 490, with over 4,000 attendees for their ex*****on. They were hung twice due to the stretch of the rope at 9:53 AM. 2 of those, being a father and son. Visit the museum on the South side of the square for the full story.

This shows the location of the previous jail, prior to the new one we use as the courthouse today.
The gallows were near the former jailhouse.
