Are you planning to visit Mount Rainier this Memorial Day weekend? Many roads are opening today, Friday, May 23, including State Route (SR) 410/123 on the east side of the park and Stevens Canyon Road. However, with a holiday weekend comes crowds and congestion throughout the park. To avoid congestion, plan to arrive early or late in the day at trailheads and busy areas such as Paradise. Have a backup plan in case parking is full at your destination.
Heads up that construction is also affecting access to some areas in the park:
- Along SR123 expect unpaved sections of gravel road as pictured here, with a reduced speed limit of 25 mph. Please drive carefully and follow all signage. During the week when crews are working, there will be one lane closures with delays of up to 30 minutes.
- The Ohanapecosh Campground Area, including day parking, picnic areas, visitor center, restrooms, parking lots, trails, & amphitheater, also remains closed for construction. The Silver Falls Trail is open starting from the Grove of the Patriarchs parking lot as an out-and-back hike only. The Silver Falls trailhead in the Ohanapecosh Campground is closed.

- The Jackson Visitor Center and Paradise Inn are open at Paradise. Sunrise remains closed until early July. Check hours of operation at https://go.nps.gov/MORAhours
- Timed entry reservations are NOT required for access to the Paradise Corridor. Timed entry reservations will be required for Sunrise/White River only starting July 11, 2025. More information: https://go.nps.gov/MORATimedEntry
