The ongoing rehabilitation of the Ohanapecosh Campground will continue to require a full closure of the campground, visitor center and all public services through the 2026 camping season. The site is expected to reopen by November 2026. Funded in part by the Great American Outdoors Act's Legacy Restoration Fund, the project includes the rehabilitation of 185 campsites and 9 comfort stations, replacement of wastewater collection system, upgrades to electrical and water systems, road repairs, and accessibility improvements.

The Ohanapecosh Visitor Center, day use parking, amphitheater, restrooms, trailhead access, and Ohanapecosh River access in the campground are also all closed to the public through November 2026. There is no recreational access at any time to Ohanapecosh Campground while it remains closed.

Every Labor Day weekend, the little town of Packwood turns into something a whole lot bigger. Streets and fields fill with booths and tables, antiques and oddities, hand-stitched quilts, rusty tools that might have fixed a tractor once, and the kind of treasures you only find when you aren’t looking. Folks come from all over, and before long, Packwood feels like the crossroads of the Northwest.

If you go, bring cash in your pocket and patience in your heart. Wear shoes you can walk in, because it’s a long stroll through town. Expect traffic. Remember, it’s a small town inundated with a big gathering. Park where you’re supposed to and leave driveways clear for the people who live and work there. And if you bring the dog, keep it close by on a short leash. It makes the day smoother for everyone.

The Packwood Flea Market runs Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1. Admission is free. The memories are, too. https://packwoodfleamarket.com/
