The Dim Light Social is officially ready to host your event.

We’ve spent years creating spaces where people can stay. With The Dim Light Social, we’ve created a space where people can gather.

Whether it’s a baby shower, wedding shower, birthday celebration, reunion, meeting, pop-up event, or something entirely your own, our goal was simple: create a venue that feels unlike anything else in Paducah.

Historic brick walls. Original tin ceilings. Custom lighting. A lounge, bar, and event space designed to transform with every gathering.

Most importantly, it’s a place where memories will be made.

Today, we’re excited to hand the keys over to our community and see the stories that unfold here.

Welcome to The Dim Light Social.

In The Glow: The Businesses Paducah Still Talks About

Every town has them. The places that disappear but somehow never really leave. Mention their name and instantly someone has a story. A favorite meal. A first job. A family tradition. A memory that feels like yesterday.

Paducah has more than a few of these. Businesses that closed their doors years ago but still live on in conversations, old photos, and the memories of the people who loved them.

Rudy’s Toyland
For generations of Paducah families, a trip to Rudy’s wasn’t just shopping, it was an experience. Downtown felt a little more magical when there was a toy store window waiting to be explored. Many locals still remember exactly what it felt like walking through those doors as kids.

Rottering’s
Before big box stores became the norm, downtown department stores were destinations. Rottering’s was one of those places. Shopping downtown once meant sidewalks full of people, storefront windows dressed for the season, and businesses that served generations of families.

The old downtown theaters
Long before streaming and home theaters, downtown Paducah lit up at night with marquees and movie palaces. The theaters were more than entertainment, they were events. Date nights, Saturday movies, and community gatherings all happened beneath those lights.

The drive-in era
Paducah once had the kind of summer nights that happened beneath a giant movie screen under the stars. For many locals, the drive-in wasn’t just a place to watch a movie, it was part of growing up.

The grand hotels of Broadway
Hotels like the Palmer House welcomed travelers to a different Paducah. River traffic, rail travel, bustling sidewalks, and visitors arriving downtown made these buildings part of the city’s identity. Today they survive mostly in photographs and stories.

The truth is, these places mattered because they became part of people’s lives. They gave Paducah character. They created memories. And even after the buildings are gone, the stories remain.

Now we want to hear from you…

What Paducah business do you miss the most?

In The Glow: A Tale of Two Donuts

National Donut Day seems like the perfect excuse to talk about one of Paducah’s sweetest rivalries.

If you’ve lived here long enough, you’ve probably been asked the question:

“Are you a Reds Donut Shop or a Munal’s Donut Shop person?”

The funny thing is, the story behind these two beloved donut shops is much more connected than most people realize.

Today, Paducah’s two most iconic donut shops are connected by more than just flour and sugar.

The story traces back to Howard “Red” Clark. Before opening Red’s, Clark worked at Munal’s decades ago. He eventually left to start his own shop, creating what would become one of Paducah’s most recognizable local businesses. Red’s has remained family-owned since opening in 1955.

The connection came full circle in 2022 when Beth, Red Clark’s granddaughter, and her husband Chris purchased Munal’s. In announcing the acquisition, Beth noted that her grandfather had worked at Munal’s roughly 70 years earlier before opening Red’s.

So while locals often debate which shop is better, the truth is that both shops share roots in the same Paducah donut-making family tree.

When you walk into Red’s Donut Shop, you’re stepping into a Paducah institution. Red’s has been serving hand-cut donuts for more than 70 years, and many locals swear by their classic glazed yeast donuts. The experience feels timeless, like the shop itself hasn’t changed much because it doesn’t need to.

Munal’s has its own devoted following. While Red’s is often associated with those light, airy yeast donuts, Munal’s has built a reputation around a different style and personality. The shop carries decades of Paducah history of its own and continues evolving while preserving the traditions that made generations of locals stop by before work, school, or church.

Ask ten Paducah residents which is better and you’ll probably get ten different answers.

Some will tell you Red’s glazed donut is impossible to beat.

Others won’t hear a word against Munal’s.

Fortunately, National Donut Day doesn’t require choosing sides.

In a world filled with national chains and cookie-cutter experiences, Paducah still has something special: two locally loved donut shops with histories that are deeply intertwined.

Not many towns can say that.

So whether your morning starts at Red’s Donut Shop or Munal’s Donut Shop, today is a good day to celebrate a uniquely Paducah tradition.

Happy National Donut Day.

In The Glow: The Lost Temple of Upper Broadway

At the corner of 7th & Broadway once stood one of Paducah’s most unique and beautiful landmarks: Temple Israel. Completed in 1893, the grand synagogue featured ornate Moorish Revival architecture with towers, arches, and onion domes that made it unlike anything else on Upper Broadway.

Temple Israel itself dates back even further, founded in 1864, making it one of the oldest congregations in the region. The Broadway synagogue served Paducah for 70 years before the congregation moved to a new home in 1963. The move was not due to decline, but changing needs. The historic building had become costly to maintain and no longer fit the congregation’s educational and community spaces. Later that same year, the building was demolished.

The temple also carried a story of community. After Broadway Methodist Church lost its building to fire, services were reportedly held inside Temple Israel, a reminder of how connected Paducah was even then.

Today, it’s hard to imagine this landmark once standing on Upper Broadway, just a few doors down from our newest project, The Lenox. Our city has lost some incredible architecture over the years, but the stories remain.

Do you remember this building or have family stories about it? We’d love to hear them.
