Let’s stop this sprawl from happening in Martin county. Your voice matters!
If you've been hearing politicians, environmentalists, or the press talk about Florida growing at 1,000 new residents per day, you might think that's an exaggeration. But the U.S. Census Bureau backs it up. See below. For an organization that seeks to protect habitat for our state's dwindling populations of wildlife, that number is an unmitigated disaster. And the response from those in charge is usually something like, "People are coming! We've got to be ready for them!" And then proceed to greenlight whatever new road or development is requested.
But where is it written that Florida's communities are obligated to trade away their natural resources and beauty for the sake of development just because people want to move to Florida (and someone wants to make money off them)? Those same communities that are being rapidly converted to sprawl today have zoning regulations that were written by local governments to determine where dense development can and cannot take place. Those decisions were sound when they were made - and should remain in place today. If we want any of natural Florida for the future, the constant rezoning of rural, agricultural, and natural land in Florida has got to stop.
"Texas experienced the largest numeric change in the nation, adding 473,453 people, followed by Florida, which added 365,205 residents. South Carolina and Florida were the two fastest-growing states in the nation, growing by 1.7% and 1.6%, respectively, in 2023."
