Laswell by Canary House

Palm Springs has always known how to put on a show. ✨🍸🌴

An unforgettable evening at The Velvet Rope, where vintage glamour, intimate surroundings, and the sweltering sounds of Jeff Stewart brought a little Old Hollywood magic to the desert.

An Emmy-winning entertainment veteran whose career includes The Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, and Phineas and Ferb, Jeff brings decades of storytelling and showmanship to the stage. And what a performance!

At Canary House, we believe the art of vacation living extends well beyond the walls of a beautiful home. It’s about the places we discover, the people we meet, the music that moves us, and those wonderful nights that remind us why Palm Springs is such a special place.

Beautiful spaces. Extraordinary experiences. A little glamour. And always a reason to stay out just a bit longer. 🥂

Frank Lloyd Wright’s words capture something central to our work at Canary House: great design begins with nature—not as decoration, but as a guiding principle.

At the Laswell Residence, we’re restoring a midcentury home while creating a deeper connection between architecture, landscape, materials and the way people live. Beauty and function should never be separate. The best spaces make room for both.

At Canary House, we believe thoughtful design should make vacation living feel effortless.

For the summer kitchen at Laswell, dramatic stone, aged brass, antiqued mirror and richly layered finishes create depth, warmth and a distinctly Palm Springs point of view.

The space was designed around the realities of desert living: a dedicated place to cook without adding heat to the main house, and a cool, convenient retreat for stepping out of the poolside sun and reaching for a cold drink.

It’s a practical, indulgent example of how design can elevate everyday experiences—and make summer at Laswell even more enjoyable.

One of the questions we’ve been asked most during the restoration of Laswell is, “Where did you find that tile?”

The answer led us on a fascinating journey—from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel in Tokyo to one of Japan’s oldest and most respected ceramic manufacturers. Along the way, we discovered a story of craftsmanship, architecture, and design that feels surprisingly connected to our own vision for Laswell.

This post shares why we’re exploring a partnership with INAX, what makes their ceramic work so extraordinary, and how history continues to inspire the future of this 1947 Palm Springs home.

I hope you enjoy the story as much as we enjoyed discovering it.

Happy Independence Day. 🇺🇸

Here’s to long tables that fill up with friends, porches that stay busy after sunset, neighborhoods that feel like home, and summer days that seem to last forever.

At Canary House, we believe the greatest luxury isn’t perfection—it’s having the freedom to slow down, open your doors, and make memories worth repeating.

Whether you’re watching fireworks, cooking for the people you love, escaping for the weekend, or simply enjoying a quiet morning with coffee, we hope today reminds you that the best moments are often the simplest ones.

Happy 4th of July.
