At Canary House, we believe thoughtful design should make vacation living feel effortless.

For the summer kitchen at Laswell, dramatic stone, aged brass, antiqued mirror and richly layered finishes create depth, warmth and a distinctly Palm Springs point of view.

The space was designed around the realities of desert living: a dedicated place to cook without adding heat to the main house, and a cool, convenient retreat for stepping out of the poolside sun and reaching for a cold drink.

It’s a practical, indulgent example of how design can elevate everyday experiences—and make summer at Laswell even more enjoyable.

One of the questions we’ve been asked most during the restoration of Laswell is, “Where did you find that tile?”

The answer led us on a fascinating journey—from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel in Tokyo to one of Japan’s oldest and most respected ceramic manufacturers. Along the way, we discovered a story of craftsmanship, architecture, and design that feels surprisingly connected to our own vision for Laswell.
