Although I still have much to do with projects in Palmyra, ofttimes my mind wonders to far away places and, hopefully, the next stop isn't in the too distant future. IRELAND, the emerald island, the land of saints and scholars.

"The earliest known usage of the Flynn surname dates back to the 10th century in Ireland. The Flynns were known as ecclesiastical leaders, poets, and warriors in ancient Irish society." Aye, sounds like me, right? (I own a church, have written poems and have run a literary club, and was the 1976 Orem City boxing champion.)

"The Flynn family originated in different parts of Ireland. Some of the most ancient forebears of the Flynn family held lands in Roscommon and Clare, while others were settled in Waterford."

That said, I occasionally peruse the website "formerglory.ie" looking for an interesting property, particularly in historic Flynn counties. At the present, my eye is on the "Guilcagh Rectory" in Portlaw, Waterford County. It's about $735,000. So.... I may need someone to go in on it with me. Who's up for it? Who else was born under a wandering star? (Paint Your Wagon reference.)

While in Utah, I've been going thru lots of boxes and folders. Although I was only a teacher for a few years, it was incredibly rewarding. I miss my students and hope that they are all doing well. This photo is of our class when we were national math champions. Yup, national! Shout out to my buddy Luke who was very much a catalyst in helping me get our class motivated and moving. And a special shout out to his sweet and supportive mom who hosted a math party for our class at her house during the championship round. Ah, good times.

For those that know or have known my dad, he's still with us. He has age-related challenges, but he's hanging in there. With extended families, it becomes difficult to get together on Christmas day. So I took presents over and had a pre-Christmas visit. He opened a couple of the gifts and he absolutely loves this one. I do too.

I am blessed to have six siblings, most of whom live in the area and take good care of dad. Best wishes to all of you other baby boomers and the challenges you face in helping your parents, spouses, children, and dealing with your own personal challenges. Be strong, be positive, God Bless You!

Another shout out to my friend David Torgersen. I found the news clipping of us. My mom also included an article on our absolutely beloved scout master, Jim Stacey. We were so fortunate to have the best scout leader a young man could have. At that time, the LDS Church sponsored some 4000 troops. Our troop, 762, consistently ranked in the top 50. I always believed that if I were dropped into any wilderness in the world, as long as Jim Stacey was there, I'd be okay. I suspect that everyone of us appreciated and loved him.

Up early, ready for the day. Doing a bit of reading. And thinking about 2024. We already have projects and plans carrying over from 2023. But we are also discussing some potential projects...and we've talked about a trip to Ireland for a long time now. Maybe in 2024. But for anyone reading this, here is a pitch for Palmyra. If you haven't been (especially if you are LDS), make some plans and come on out. If you do make such plans, contact me and I'll give you information to help enhance your visit.

Even if you are not LDS, come on out. We are fairly close to Niagara Falls, Watkins Glen, and Lake Ontario. For LDS visitors, I have so much I can share with you that most visitors miss. For example, the attached photo is of the Village Hall, across the street from our house. The second floor is the old Opera Hall and the site of Willard Bean's boxing "exhibition" where he took on the town. If you've never heard of this, you need to watch the movie "The Fighting Preacher."

LDS visitors, you truly need several days to see and experience everything. A big question is where to stay. You could...stay with us! We acquired one of the four corner churches a couple years ago and converted the back wing into a BnB. Find us on AirBnB. We have two listings under Historic Four Corner Church. Even if you don't stay with us, please stop by for a visit or contact me with any questions you have.

Palmyra gets thousands of visitors. Start making plans, especially for accommodations. We have already received quite a few bookings for 2024. It will be our third season and we have already had repeat customers.

I love to hear from old friends. I happened upon a wonderful old friend at Walmart a few days ago. Awesome! Happy Holidays. Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. And the very best of wishes always.

For visitors to this site. I have not been active here. We have been posting about our Palmyra activities on our other site "Jeffrey Flynn". To distinguish it from other Jeff Flynns, the photo is of the church we bought. Type in Jeffrey Flynn and then look for the church.

For the record, our bed and breakfast in the historic Methodist Church of the famed four corner churches in Palmyra, NY is ready to accept reservations on AirBnB. If you have questions, contact me here on this site. Tell your friends that are planning trips to Palmyra. We have the best location and much to offer. Whether or not you stay with us, drop by to say hello. I love to see old friends and especially students.

Our Story

Greetings! I started life on the east coast. However, I have lived on both coasts and in between. My wife and I also lived in Europe for close to 5 years. Two sons were born while working in Europe, Sam in The Netherlands and Joe during our time in France. We have experienced humidity (3 years in Miami) and dry heat (3 years in Arizona). In addition to living and working in many different climates and altitudes, we have met and enjoyed time spent with friends from many countries. I could go on.... But long story short, we are delighted to be returning to New York and we are excited about our place in Palmyra.

We have always loved art (paintings and sculptures) as well as interesting, fun, different “decor” items--Dutch delftware, Spanish Lladro, Russian nesting dolls, German nutcrackers, chess sets from different countries, etc. But, alas, although I have very talented artists in the family (daughter Maddi and son Joe), I myself cannot draw or paint. What I can do is create and build tables, benches, and whatever my boss (lovely, talented, intelligent wife Linda) asks me to make.
