Dear “Concerned and responsible citizen,”
Thank you for sharing that your family flew hundreds of miles and spent thousands of dollars, which naturally entitles you to override beach safety decisions made by trained open-water lifeguards.
We especially appreciate the comparison to North Carolina beaches. As everyone knows, oceanic conditions are identical everywhere, and lifeguards should always defer to vacationers who have personally observed waves before.
We regret that children were briefly denied access to wet sand during hazardous surf conditions. This is exactly the kind of government overreach the Founding Fathers warned us about.
Next summer, we hope you’ll return with an appreciation for the fact that our waves, sand, bathrooms, and beach rules may not always align with every visitor’s expectations.
