The work behind the scenes never really stops... and honestly, I wouldn't want it to.

One of my latest Firelight projects is replacing the original all-wood bar stools with these upgraded wrought iron stools. They have the look and durability I was hoping for, but they needed one more thing before they were ready for the cabin—a fresh set of custom-upholstered seats.

Could I have hired someone to do it? Absolutely.

But every now and then I enjoy rolling up my sleeves and investing a little of myself into the places our guests call home for a few days.

It's not always the big renovations that make a difference. Sometimes it's the little improvements that make a cabin feel just a little more comfortable, a little more beautiful, and a little more cared for.

I can't wait to show you the finished game room when these are back around the pool table.

Meet Penny – Part 3

People often ask where the little touches in our cabins and condos come from.

The answer?

They're usually found on days like this. 😊

I love wandering through little shops, antique stores, local markets, meeting artist like Stacey Fabre, and places full of unexpected treasures.

Sometimes I find exactly what I'm looking for.

Sometimes I find something I never knew I needed.

And sometimes...

I end up making friends with the Grinch. 💚

Choosing the right piece isn't always easy.

I'm always asking myself,

"Will this make someone smile?"

"Will it make the space feel warm and welcoming?"

"Will it help create memories?"

Because decorating isn't really about filling a room.

It's about creating a feeling.

And if a guest walks in and feels at home...

Then it was worth the search.

Meet Penny – Part 2

When people think about a vacation, they usually think about where they're going.

I usually think about how I hope they'll feel when they get there.

This picture is just me and my friend Rita enjoying a quiet afternoon in a cool mountain stream. No schedule. No rushing. Just laughter, conversation, and a chance to breathe.

As I looked at this photo later, I realized...

This is exactly what I hope every guest finds during their Timeout.

Not just a beautiful place...

A chance to slow down.

To reconnect.

To make memories they'll carry home long after the vacation is over.

And behind the scenes? I'm whatever the day calls for. Sometimes I'm answering guest messages. Sometimes I'm decorating. Sometimes I'm cleaning. And yes...sometimes I'm even the maintenance department, figuring out how to fix a stubborn dresser drawer!

I don't do it because I have to.

I do it because I care.

Who’s Behind Timeout Collections?

Yes, I take my overalls to the beach.

This photo probably shows the real person behind Timeout Collections better than a polished portrait ever could. The man beside me is my brother, and we were taking a timeout of our own to reconnect—although, as you can see, I was still working a little too.

I do not spend much time thinking of myself as someone who owns vacation properties. I am usually thinking about the next detail that could help a guest feel comfortable, cared for and at peace.

Creating these places has become deeply personal to me. I love providing spaces where families, friends and couples can step away from busy lives, reconnect and make memories they will carry home.

So this is me—overalls, laptop, brother and all—quietly working behind the scenes of Timeout Collections.

It's the beach home we created for ourselves—and now we're honored to share it with our guests.

Some artwork was commissioned especially for The Sandcastle.

Several pieces were handcrafted by talented local artists.

Every room was designed one piece at a time from our home in Tennessee, with one simple question guiding every decision:

"Would we love spending our own vacation here?"
