Our Story
The Mentz Hotel, National Registry of Historic Places, was built in 1905 as a train station hotel that hosted guests going to Mammoth Cave. Mr. Mentz & his family ran the Mammoth Cave Railroad Company, 1853-1930. The hotel was established as the Grand Victorian Inn and newly restored 2015. Karin & Gary Carroll had a vision for this inn, and after two successful B&B’s in Glasgow they started their third (just recently selling the Glasgow B&B’s to other entrepreneurs). The Victorian Inn hosts a charming wraparound porch and is 1 mile from Interstate 65 and Mammoth Cave National Park & Diamond Caverns. Some of the many area attractions include the Bell’s Tavern, National Corvette Museum, Lincoln’s Birthplace, Bourbon Trail, South Central Kentucky Cultural Center Museum, Plaza Theatre, & Yancy’s Brewery. The individually decorated queen rooms feature free Wi-Fi, cable TV, en suite bathrooms, & central a/c and heat. Nine rooms are upstairs, and two are downstairs, Suite Renfro (ADA accessible) & Suite Joy which features a hand carved half Teaster canopy bed and a separate parlor room. Full breakfast is complimentary at 8:30. The hotel also features a cozy Mammoth Railway Café with wood floors & train theme. Hours of operation unless hosting a private event are Thurs, Fri, Sat 11-8 for lunch & dinner. We also host Weddings & Special Events. Future plans include a pool & whirlpool bath, fire-pit & patio and a train station for the corner to be a replica of the original.
