Park Rapids Area Fishing Report

With the end of February around the corner temperatures are slowly rising, melting the snow, and increasing the bite! Along with the warm temps brings many anglers to a lot of your local lakes in search of their limits of fish or maybe that one particular trophy!

Walleye- Heading slightly shallower week by week looking to stock up some pounds the spawn. Looking for smaller fish and baitfish up around 18-22 feet of water. Tie on a Lindy “Frostee Spoon” tipped with a minnow head or for a dead stick set up tie on a VMC “Fast Grip Octopus hook” paired with either a shiner or rainbow minnow.

Northern- Looking for that easy minnow or smaller fish in 12-16 feet of water around weedy bottoms and standing weeds. Tie on a Northland “Super Glo Easy Set hook” throw a Sucker minnow or bigger shiner for best luck at hooking a trophy.

Sunfish/Crappie- Crappies usually 25-35 feet of water around most of the Park Rapids area. Sunfish usually sitting in 10-15 feet of water around tall standing weeds for some cover. Both sunfish and crappie tie on a Smokey Hills Panfish Pounder tipped with either a small crappie minnow or wax worm. Or for the tougher bite throw a Northland Impulse Plastic on for some different movement or scents.
