We’re not the only thing around here that transforms. 🌾 The Sky Islands put on a different show every season. Emerald grasslands and dramatic skies when the summer monsoons roll in, golden light in the fall, crisp and quiet in winter, wildflowers and birdsong in spring. Hey I’m David and I’m the Creative Director for Apache Oaks. Three years back Mike asked me to come down and give my input for him and Laurinda. I quickly saw the opportunity to make something special.

So I jumped in to lend a hand with the look and feel of the property. See my background is Studio Fine Arts, and I also grew up in the construction business. So my intention has been to use what I bring to create something inviting, comfortable and memorable. I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the southwest style, as an artist I like to work with my hands and I like fixing up things I find, or as my dad would say “Just shining up pennies.”

From digging up boulders, to hitting resale shops, garage sales, estate sales and yes, good old FB marketplace. We left no stone unturned until we had what we needed. Picking up finds others have over looked or grown tired of, we’ve given a new home and a new life. That’s just shining up pennies. There’s probably a story in every room of how it came about. It took some time, sorting, taking pieces apart, rebuilding, sanding, painting and some imagination. We’re happy with how it’s come together so far and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have putting it together. Here’s just some of what to expect when you come and see us!
