🕰️ A Little Piece of Grand Motel History

Every old building has a story… and we’re lucky enough to be uncovering more of ours. ❤️

The Grand Motel was built in the 1950s and it’s believed that Ralph and Margaret Petite, were the original owners.

Recently, I had the opportunity to hear some memories of The Grand from Kevin Anderson, Ralph’s great-nephew, who spent time here as a young boy. Kevin returned to the property with his son, Ethan, and shared some stories that gave me a glimpse into what life around The Grand was like many years ago.

Next to the motel was Ralph’s Pembine Trading Post, which was housed in a barn. Today, the barn may be gone, but the concrete slab it once stood on is still here on the property, quietly marking the spot where the Trading Post once stood.

Kevin remembers a very special piece of that history — a 1941 Buick limousine that Ralph kept parked in the corner of the barn.

And Ralph was quite the entrepreneur! He was known for selling just about anything he thought he could make a little money on — from propane tanks to Christmas trees and plenty of things in between. The motel was just one of several businesses he was involved in around the Pembine area.

Looking at this old photo of Ralph and Margaret sitting outside The Grand, and then seeing Kevin and Ethan sitting in nearly the same spot generations later, is pretty amazing.

Same place. Different generation. Still making memories. ❤️

I’m honored to be the current owner and caretaker of a little piece of Pembine history, and I love hearing the stories that help bring The Grand’s past back to life.

The skies were still a little hazy but trails were calling! Adam and I enjoyed our new SxS while our friends rented theirs from Pembine Sport and Lawn. Staying at The Grand Motel & RV means direct access to the ATV/UTV trails, so your adventure starts the moment you arrive. We hope to see you on the trails soon! 😊🌲🚜

A Menominee River memory worth bragging about! 🎣

Our guest Jeff made his first trip to the Menominee River one to remember, landing this beautiful 20¼-inch Smallmouth Bass while out on a guided fishing trip with Tight Lines Fly Fishing Co..

Jeff shared:
