Tropical Storm watch is in effect for Escambia County and the Florida Panhandle as tropical storm conditions could begin arriving late Monday into Tuesday. Winds are expected to be around 60 mph as it drifts toward Louisiana.

This picture was taken this morning at the Windemere. More Sargassum has washed up on the beach. The heavy surf from the south the last few days has brought it in. I understand this runs from Navarre Beach to Fort Morgan.

This picture was taken this morning. I have received several messages lately about how bad the sargassum is washed up on the beach in front of the Windemere. It is very light coverage as of today.
Most of the sargassum that washes up on our beaches is a free-floating seaweed that forms large mats.
While it may not seem ideal when you’re hoping for a picture-perfect beach photo, sargassum plays an important role in our coastal ecosystem. Once it washes ashore, it helps return nutrients to the beach and supports the health of our shoreline.
