Every campground has a story.
This one starts long before Honey Run.

Back in 2013, Tessie was pregnant with Carley when her doctor took one look at the swelling in her leg and said, "Bedrest."
Now, for anyone who knows Tessie, that's about as realistic as telling a squirrel to stop collecting acorns. 👀😂

She had just graduated college with a degree in Business and Accounting and was ready to take on the world. The problem? Taking on the world from a bed wasn't exactly her style.

At the time, Kevin and Libby owned Affordable Water Treatment. One day Tessie noticed her dad's file folders piling higher and higher, so she started helping. What began as organizing paperwork while rolling around in a chair with her leg elevated quickly turned into something much bigger.

Before long, she became the third full-time employee.
Kevin taught her everything he knew about water treatment. The science. The service. The importance of doing right by people. The value of showing up when you say you will. The business grew, eventually becoming a team of eight incredible employees who shared a passion for serving their community with education, integrity, and heart.

In 2020, Kevin and Libby sold the business and began their retirement adventure. Tessie took a leap of faith and became a licensed real estate agent.

Fast forward to today...
If you've camped at Honey Run, you've probably met Kevin and Libby.
And if you haven't met them, chances are you've benefited from something they've done.

From the very first season, they've shown up ready to help with whatever needed to be done. And when we say whatever, we mean WHATEVER.

Turning on water systems.
Plumbing.
Installing showers.
Mowing.
Painting.
Building docks.
Running the store.
Teaching pickleball.
Cleaning cabins.
Helping with projects.
And most recently helping install a massive commercial playground for our campers.

The truth is, Honey Run wouldn't be what it is without them.
One of the greatest gifts in life is getting the opportunity to build something alongside people you love. Scott and Tessie don't take that for granted for a second.

And the adventure isn't over yet...
Soon Kevin and Libby will be stepping into another role around here—running the food truck! 🍕🔥
Before the water treatment days, they spent years in the food industry, so they're pretty excited to get back into the kitchen and start serving up some amazing food for our campers.

So today we wanted to give a huge shout-out to Kevin and Libby.
Not because they asked for it.
Not because they expect recognition.
But because sometimes the people working the hardest behind the scenes deserve a moment in the spotlight…..

People often ask what makes Honey Run special.
It's not the beach.
It's not the playground.
It's not the events.
It's the people.
The ones who show up when nobody's watching.
The ones willing to do the hard work.
The ones who pour a little piece of themselves into this place every single day.
Kevin and Libby have been doing exactly that from day one.
And we couldn't be more grateful to be on this adventure together. ❤️🐻🍯

🔥 Chips & Dip (and their legendary alter ego, Drunk in Public ) left their mark on Honey Run this weekend!

Rain? Didn’t matter.
The dance floor was packed.
The crowd was electric.
And the memories? The kind you’ll be talking about all summer. 🎶🔥

Now we need to know…

👇 What was YOUR favorite moment of the night?

Welllll… Donnie Theriault from D.T. Works just dropped something off at Honey Run and let’s just say… we’re pretty excited about it. 👀

Not only did he give this to us, but he took time out of his day to personally drive it up to the campground. In a world where everyone is busy, that kind of generosity doesn’t go unnoticed.

Now the question is…

🤔 Any guesses what’s hiding over there?!

Drop your guesses below and see if you can crack the mystery.

And if you’re looking for someone who works hard, shows up, and can tackle just about anything, Donnie from D.T. Works is your guy. We’re grateful for people like him! 🙌

Meet Lyla ☀️

And let me just tell you… if sunshine was a human, it would probably look a whole lot like this girl.

Lyla is the newest member of the Honey Run Beach & Campground crew and we could not be more excited to have her spend her summer with us. She’s known for her kind heart, laid-back personality, and the kind of smile that instantly makes people feel comfortable around her. Seriously… when people think of Lyla, they think of that smile. It’s just who she is.

But don’t let the calm personality fool you… this girl is always up for fun. Whether she’s playing lacrosse, basketball, pickleball, dancing with Flammin Raymond & Sizzlin Susan (yes… they’re coming to Honey Run this summer 🔥💃), or jumping into whatever chaos we’ve created for the day… she’s all in.

A few fun facts about Lyla:
🏀 Tessie actually coached her in basketball
👯‍♀️ She and Shelbey have been close friends since they first started school
💛 This is Lyla’s VERY first job

And honestly? There’s something really special about getting to watch kids you’ve known for years grow into hardworking, kind humans. We don’t take that lightly around here.

So if you see Lyla around the campground this summer, make sure you say hello and welcome her to the Honey Run family. Chances are… you’ll immediately see exactly what we mean about that smile 😊

Just last year… we were the newbies.

Like… the “still painting the camp store while trying to figure out campground software we had absolutely no clue how to use” kind of newbies 😂

At this exact time last year, our first Memorial Day weekend as campground owners felt equal parts exciting and terrifying. It rained. The campground was quiet. Every little thing felt HUGE. Every decision felt heavy. And behind every smile was us silently wondering…

“Are we even doing this right?” 😅

Fast forward to this weekend…

And wow. 🤩

I don’t even know how to put into words what this weekend meant to us.

The campground was fuller than we ever imagined. The store was packed with smiling faces, people introducing themselves, campers and neighbors from around the pond stopping in just to say:
“Thank you for having this store here.”

And honestly? That hit us harder than people probably realize.

Because when you pour your heart, money, time, exhaustion, and probably a little bit of your sanity into something… hearing that people appreciate it means everything.

Hodgkiss Family Candy & Gifts had lines wrapped with campers and pond neighbors grabbing cotton candy, snow cones, and fresh squeezed lemonade like it was summer magic in a cup 🍋🍭

Then Isaac’s Place Food Truck rolled in Saturday and let me tell you something…
Those chicken tenders? Life changing 😂
Juicy, crispy perfection.
The hand-cut fries? Incredible.
The steak & cheese? My family inhaled them.
It gave so many families a chance to actually relax and NOT cook dinner for once — which honestly feels like a vacation in itself.

We already can’t wait to welcome them back in June.

And then Sunday night happened…

The rain started falling.
Most people would assume that ruins a Memorial Day weekend.

Not at Honey Run.💥

Because under that covered pavilion, something special happened.

Chips & Dip (aka Drunk in Public ) absolutely brought the place to life. People dancing. Singing. Laughing. Campers shoulder to shoulder staying warm through music and community.

Then around 8:00 PM, three cars pull up to the gate.

Seventeen people pile out. 👀

So naturally… me being me… I lean into the car window and ask:
“So… what brings you to Honey Run?” 😂

They tell me they’re a bachelor and bachelorette party. They had been down at the golf course and someone told them:
“You HAVE to go to Honey Run tonight.”

First of all… how cool is THAT? 😭

But what happened next is what got me.

As they walked into the pavilion, our seasonal campers immediately welcomed them in like old friends. Offering to take group photos. Cheering them on. Dancing with them. Celebrating this huge milestone in their lives with people they had literally just met hours before.

At one point Tennessee Whiskey started playing and everyone gathered around them cheering while they danced together like we were all part of the same family for the night.

And by the end of the band’s last song?
Hands in the air.
Everyone singing at the top of their lungs.
One of those moments you wish you could bottle up forever.

But this part…
THIS part is what stayed with me.

As the band started packing up, I overheard a few of them say:
“Time to clean up. We can’t leave a trace — even if it’s not ours.”
🤯

And every single one of them started picking up trash.

That right there?
That’s the kind of stuff that restores your faith in people.

They were respectful.
Fun.
Kind.
Full of life.
The type of young adults that make you want to hug their parents for raising genuinely good humans.

To that bachelor and bachelorette crew…
We hope you come back someday.
You left an impression on Honey Run just like the band, the laughter, and the cotton candy did ❤️

And lastly…
Yes, I know I write long posts 😂
I physically cannot help it.

Because while all of this was happening…

Shelbey and I were training a brand new employee (intro post coming soon 👀).

Scott, Kevin, Libby, worked nonstop trying to finish the playground before the rain rolled in. And when the rain did come?🌧️
They pivoted straight into building docks with the help of some incredible campers.

Barry, Mario, Bruce, & Sheila — thank you. Truly.

This weekend reminded us that Honey Run was never just about campsites.

It’s about people.
Connection.
Community.
The memories you didn’t know you needed.
And somehow finding magic… even in the middle of a rainy Memorial Day weekend.

We are so incredibly grateful for every single person who continues to support this crazy dream of ours ❤️
