Butano State Park

Butano State Park A small redwood canyon park great for quiet hiking and family camping. Restrooms with running water are provided.

Butano State Park features mixed forest, oak woodland, red alder riparian habitat, redwood forest, and chaparral. He has miles of hiking trails and a campground with 21 drive-in campsites and 18 walk-in campsites. Drinking water is available at the park in both the campground and the day use areas. Dogs are allowed on a maximum 6' leash along the main road and fire roads, and in the campground. B

utano State Park also features a backpacking trail camp with 8 campsites. The trail campsites are located 5.5 miles hike (8.9 km) up from the entrance. There is no water at the site but there is water nearby from seasonal streams.[2]
Junior Rangers programs, guided nature walks, and campfire programs are offered during the summer weekends, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Santa Cruz District is hiring again! We are recruiting for a BIPOC Community Coordinator.

This is a part-time, year-round position that will conduct interpretive programs like campfires and children’s programs at state parks and beaches in Aptos and Watsonville, staff the Seacliff State Beach Visitor Center, and assist in coordination with local BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities via public outreach and special events.

In an effort to better represent and serve the rich diversity of our region, individuals who are Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC) and/or who identify as LGBTQAI+ are strongly encouraged to apply.

Santa Cruz District is now hiring seasonal interpreters for Summer 2023! If you enjoy working outdoors and with the public, this could be a great entry-level job for you.

Summer interpreters lead guided walks and conduct campfire and children’s programs while spending time in some of the most beautiful places in California! The summer season runs from mid-May through Labor Day weekend.

Do you enjoy working in an office environment and spending time in local state parks? Good news: we are hiring for an administrative senior park aide at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park! This is a great entry level position with possible opportunities to promote!

This position will work year-round, part-time at the Santa Cruz District Office located in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. The senior park aide will provide basic front office clerical duties and also support our administrative programs such as Accounting, Contracts, and Personnel.
