Saturday Brunch on the Rooftop at 20 West is cancelled.

The forecast for tomorrow, October 17, isn’t one we’d ask anyone to sit through on the rooftop, so we’re calling it now instead of at the last minute. Up there, the weather always gets the final say.

if you’d still like to make a morning of it at Hotel Petersburg in Old Towne Petersburg, Virginia, Shirley’s is open downstairs for breakfast 7am-10am, for lunch 11am-2pm.

20 West will be open for it's last weekend of the season tonight from 6-10pm, and tomorrow 6-10pm weather permitting.

Thank you all for understanding, we truly wish weather wasn't an ongoing battle for the rooftop.

There’s a table set for ten in the Boiler Room on Thursday, October 29, and the kitchen has written it a five-course menu.

It starts small: a crisp Greek zucchini fritter with strained mint yogurt and charred lemon. Then U10 scallops over Jerusalem artichoke purée, a roasted squash velouté brightened with pickled persimmon and aged balsamic pearls, and a 28-day dry-aged ribeye with roasted garlic and bone marrow reduction. Dessert is a Valrhona chocolate marquise with hazelnut tuile and fresh raspberry granita.

One long evening with Chef Mina in the basement of our 1916 building in Old Towne Petersburg, Virginia. Dinner is $110 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

This weekend’s catch is red drum (puppy drum, to anyone raised near the water), finished with a bright pan sauce. It’s the same fish all weekend: Thursday through Saturday in Shirley’s dining room, while supplies last.

It comes to the table with fondant sweet potatoes (rich, buttery, soft at the edge of a fork), smoky bacon and fresh Swiss chard.

Holiday party season is decided in October.

The good dates in December go early, and they go to whoever asked first. If you are the person who always ends up organising it, this is the week to get ahead of it rather than the week in November when you remember.

We do holiday dinners in the 1916 dining room and after-parties downstairs in the Boiler Room. There are new menus at both this autumn, which means this year's party will not taste like last year's.

And there are rooms upstairs, which solves the problem every holiday party eventually has.

Tell us the date and the headcount and we will take it from there.

Who want's a tease of the brunch menu for Saturday, October 17, on the 20 West rooftop?

A few menu items we'd point you toward: the wood-fired breakfast pizza (fresh mozzarella, sausage, wild arugula, and a sunny-side-up egg cooked right in the stone oven) and the crispy hot honey chicken on a savory cornmeal-chive waffle with whipped bourbon butter. If you'd rather go sweet, the lemon ricotta waffle comes with warm wild blueberry compote and candied lemon.

The avocado toast and seasonal fruit cup are both vegetarian. To drink, there's a classic mimosa, a house-made Bloody Mary, fresh juices, and coffee or cappuccino for a slower start.

Brunch runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the last day of the season up there.
