🌾 Meet the Staff: Carie | Head of House

Carie is an outdoor enthusiast based in Pierre, South Dakota, with a deep appreciation for the land, the river, and everything the outdoors has to offer. She spends her free time fishing, hiking, exploring, and enjoying the water—and she’s now expanding that passion by learning to hunt and becoming more involved in the sporting community.

As Head of House, Carie helps make ScatterGun Lodge feel like home. She loves meeting new people and takes pride in making sure every guest feels welcome, comfortable, and well cared for. Her appreciation for tradition, camaraderie, and the little details that make a lodge stay special makes her a wonderful addition to the ScatterGun family.

And as this photo proves, she isn’t afraid to get right into the adventure!

We’re excited to have Carie on our team. Be sure to say hello the next time you’re at the lodge!

Just a few more sunrises until these fields come alive. 🌅

The dogs are ready, the guides are counting down, and ScatterGun Lodge is preparing to welcome our first hunters of the 2026 season.

There’s nothing quite like a South Dakota sunrise over pheasant country. Who else is ready to hear that first rooster flush? 🌾🐾

Meet David “Dave” — Head Guide

With 36 years of guiding experience, Dave is truly the man who has done it all—from bears and mountain lions to elk and just about everything in between. The only thing he hasn’t guided for? Turkeys!

His adventures have taken him to Alaska, and he even owned and operated his own charter boat in Florida. When it came time to find a place to call home, Dave chose ScatterGun Lodge because of its outstanding dog reputation and the great people behind it.

Fun fact: Dave carries an AH Fox sh***un featuring an elephant head with its trunk raised on the bottom. Does anyone know what that symbol means? Drop your guess in the comments! 🐘

We’re proud to have Dave’s experience, stories, and larger-than-life personality leading the way in the field at ScatterGun Lodge. Give us a call and come hunt with the legend!
