🧡🦃 It's Pheasant Hunting Season in South Dakota! 🧡

Only in South Dakota do we proudly celebrate our state bird… and then head out to hunt it! 😄

South Dakota is known far and wide for its incredible pheasant hunting, and each fall, our state rolls out the orange carpet for hunters from near and far!

Whether they're flying in from across the country or loading up the truck for a road trip, resident and out-of-state hunters bring more than their blaze-orange gear and hunting dogs. They bring a tremendous boost to South Dakota's tourism economy!

From small-town cafes, hotels and gas stations to sporting goods stores, hunting lodges, restaurants and countless other businesses, pheasant hunting supports jobs, generates revenue and brings visitors to rural communities across our state. And while many of our smaller towns feel that impact firsthand, the economic benefits reach far beyond the fields and across all of South Dakota.

There's nothing quite like seeing a sea of orange in our communities each fall. And let's face it — nobody welcomes pheasant hunters quite like South Dakotans! 🧡

To all our resident and visiting hunters, welcome to the fields of South Dakota! Here's to great memories, good friends, hardworking hunting dogs and plenty of stories to tell.

One of the most common trends that came up in our reports was the number of standing crops still in the field. We've been watching this closely through the USDA's Crop Progress Report, and the latest updates we have to share are:

Corn: 29% Complete

Soybeans: 78% Complete

Sunflowers: 16% Complete

Hunting grasslands adjacent to standing crop fields, particularly in the evening hours, can be a very effective tactic!
