Another morning adventure at Cades Cove. Every visit reveals something different. There are trails to original homesteaders’ cabins, beautiful prairie vistas and gorgeous mountain backdrops! Sometimes you get lucky enough to get a glimpse of the black bear in its natural habitat.

I highly, highly recommend visiting Clingman’s Dome at sunrise. What a magnificent way to start the day! Breathtaking!

We left the cabin about 5:30 am and drove about an hour to the parking lot. Then it’s about 1/2 a mile up a steep but paved walkway to the viewing tower. Worth every single step for what you witness at the top!

We hiked to beautiful Laurel Falls yesterday. The trail head is not too far from the Gatlinburg entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I recommend it, especially with children, because it’s a relatively easy hike (1.3 miles each way) with a beautiful reward at the end.
