ELIZABETH PRICE:
I wanna share something with everyone today that is just a personal experience.
I remember when I started suspecting that something was "different" with Will. As soon as I felt that way I started reaching out to other moms, I called our P*P and I started reading!
When I finally felt like ok he needs to be tested I told my husband, I have made an appointment to start the testing process for Will for Autism.
We both suspected it, but the fear of him having a label terrified us. Because let's face it sometimes people can be so mean.
He said ok Liz. You are the mom and you know him better than anyone.
We did it. We got our preliminary diagnosis in February of 2020.
And honestly for the very first time since I started suspecting I could breathe.
I remember calling my mother in law 2 weeks later after taylor and I had talked, processed and started gathering the things we needed for further testing. We asked Big Granny and Poppie to come over and we told them what we had found out.. they were the first people we said it out loud too. And I remember feeling so scared. But I knew they were in our corner.
Our biggest fear was other people. The label. The stares all of it. We got our final part of the diagnosis in July of 2020. We have already dealt with awful comments and we have been dealing with stares for forever.
I share all the fear part to say this:
Friends if you are finding yourself in the shoes of wondering. Stick to your gut. Know that there is help out there and I will always be available for helping guide you. People will make comments in the worst way and you use that as a educational moments. That's what we do.
Together we can spread awareness to make this world easier for people on the spectrum! 🧩
