Every place starts with an idea. Ours started with a Western actor who wanted to build a movie town in the desert.

In 1946, Dick Curtis brought together a group of Hollywood investors, including Roy Rogers and Russell Hayden, to create Pioneertown. A permanent place to film Westerns, with real businesses and somewhere for the actors and crews to stay.

That somewhere was the Townhouse, now Pioneertown Motel.

A good Pioneertown morning starts with coffee and a trail. A few minutes from the motel, Pioneertown Mountains Preserve has routes for an easy wander or a proper climb.

Swipe for three to put on your list, then read the full trail guide from Pioneertown Gazette before you head out. We’ll be here when you get back.

The first signs you’ve made it to Pioneertown Motel.

Follow the arrow, pull beneath the old motel sign, and wander into the lobby for your first hello. Part check in, part desert trading post, and full of small pieces of the West worth taking a closer look at.

Pappy & Harriet’s show season is in full swing, and the outdoor stage is already lighting up Mane Street.

There’s nothing quite like catching a show under the desert sky, dancing until your boots are dusty, then walking just a few steps back to your room at Pioneertown Motel. No long drive home. No cutting the night short. Just good music, cold drinks, and a bed waiting nearby.

Upcoming shows worth planning a stay around:

• Goth Babe - August 12
• CAT POWER - September 11
• Arlo Parks - September 15
• Men I Trust - September 25
• TFB - September 27
• Toadies - October 6
• Lukas Nelson - October 7
• Last Dinosaurs - October 9
• Adam Port / Keinemusik 🦋 - October 10
• Jonah Kagen - October 23
• hazlett - October 24

Book your room, bring your dancing shoes, and make a night of it!

For a lot of people, this is the reason they make the trip. Joshua Tree National Park is close and always worth building a day around. Happy Earth Day from Pioneertown Motel 🌱
