My journey to success started with a one-way ticket to Singapore and a whole lot of fear. Here's what I learned...

Does 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 matter to who you are today?

For some, the answer is easy. But for others, it's a whole journey.....

𝗠𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝟮𝟳 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼. I was a fresh FOXPRO programmer, straight out of a polytechnic diploma..

Coming from a Telugu-medium background, I'd never even left my home state, let alone had to speak another language.

At work, I used to only hang out with colleagues who spoke Telugu, avoiding any situation to communicate in English..

Life was going well, I was still in my teens.. learning new skills and new programming languages...

Suddenly an opportunity..

I heard about a lot of demand for one of the skills I had in Singapore... That was the year 2000

I took a chance, a leap of faith that threw me completely out of my comfort zone... took 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 to ✈️ Singapore.

A new country, a new job, and no one spoke Telugu.

I thought my technical skills would get me what I was looking for... I was completely wrong... I failed miserably in my first interviews... because I could not articulate my expertise...

I had to reinvent myself. 💪 I had to build up my English, not just to get by, but to truly succeed.

And guess what? I did it.

I had many sleepless nights and countless hours of preparation in my mind and practice....

I made one 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩/𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣: I am not going home until I succeed...

In less than 3 months, I secured my 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗝𝗢𝗕 ...

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴. It didn't just transform my career – it multiplied my confidence by 100x

This entire experience taught me a 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻... The reason I am sharing my story is to share this point

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝘄. "Work expands to fill the time available for its completion."

• 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲 to achieve something. It'll take a decade.
• 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. It'll take a year.
• But give yourself 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀? You'll get it done in three months!

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀. It pushes you to prioritize what truly matters.

𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜. It's about 𝗬𝗢𝗨.
It's about the 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮l 𝘆𝗼𝘂 have within.

Think about it: 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝟱 𝗼𝗿 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼.
But the real question is: 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝟯 𝘁𝗼 𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀?

The future isn't fixed. 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝟲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀.

Instead of fighting with your current manager, client, team...
Build these things from the list...
1. Build a new 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟
2. Build your 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗗
3. Build your 𝗕𝗢𝗗𝗬
4. Build your 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗦𝗘𝗧
5. Build your 𝗡𝗘𝗧𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞
Reason: If you are unhappy at where you are it is your current reality. .
You never change things by fighting the existing reality, To change something you need to build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.
It's the only way to grow 10x ...
As Warren Buffett says... "The most important thing to do if you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging."
Get out of the current reality and give yourself some space... Much magic happens when you give that space
Stop wasting one more year on fighting with existing reality...

3. Don't make small things BIG things
4. Produce Mastery, never mediocrity
5. Be the best listener you know
6. Walk in nature for at least 15 min
7. Forgive who hurt you.

I used to consume more than what I needed...
And I'm tired of it.
Until four years ago... I used to think that more information, programs, and conferences would make me more powerful...
I was 100% wrong...
I was under the impression... the secret to success was filling every spare second with information.
I read constantly, listened to podcasts whenever I moved, and listened to audiobooks when I was on the road.
I felt that was the only way...
The biggest problem is that 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 for processing if you're constantly consuming.
About four years ago, I listened to a wise mentor, Bob Proctor, who recently passed away. He said, "Vamsi, I have been reading one book for the past 40 years, and I have still more to learn from the book... he was 85 years old when he said that...
I paused for a week and processed what Bob had shared with me. I did not quite understand what he was trying to teach me...
A few days later, I understand the power of deep learning...
I realized that I don't have to read and listen every awaken hour...
I need a few hours of input and 5x hours to reflect on the input...
The reason I am typing this post...
I am noticing more and more people are falling into this information-consuming trap.
If you are constantly consuming...
.
𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁.
𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀.
𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲.
Think about it...
After that lesson from Bob... The new me is operating differently than I used to
Every day, I spend twice as much time reflecting on my vision, mission, and current thoughts, feelings, and actions compared to what I am consuming.
Even typing this post is a reflection for me. I am reprogramming my subconscious...
I recommend that you try it for a month or two.

• Give 2x Space for reflection rather than consuming...
• Journal your thoughts/feelings/actions...
• Go out for a walk without your phone and headphones...
• Please slow down and look closely at your kids/family... look into their eyes..
Once you apply that... Your decisions become easier because you have space to work through them. You feel less anxious because you’re not racing at 1,000 miles an hour.
And my favorite insight from this...
Time slows down... because you’re enjoying the present much more.
Stop wasting your time on consuming more ...
It won't get you anywhere near what you want...
Instead, 𝗚𝗢 𝗗𝗘𝗘𝗣.. read the same book 3,4 times.. listen to the same program multiple times, and stick with 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿 for 10 years...

In 2011, I was promoted to manager of application development.
Within a month, I was supposed to give a speech.
I prepared well, and was part of toastmasters at the time.
I felt confident knowing there was only going to be about 15 people in the room, only the members of my team who'd be reporting to me now.
It wasn't much.
Well, something interesting happened...
150 people ended up coming.
I bombed on the stage.
I felt disastrous. I went home in a complete state of defeat that day.
I realized and thought to myself with a degree of certainty that I was, in fact, not a good fit for this manager position after all.
My wife sensed my energy and asked why I looked depressed.
I told her what had happened.
She said, if you don’t like this job, you can go back and do your previous role where you felt confident at.
Okay, I decided this was my next move.
The next day, I went in to tell my boss thank you for the opportunity, but this gig is not for me I’m not the man for the job.
After all,
he too saw me bomb on the stage.
Right?
That was my intention, anyways. But to my surprise when I got into his office, the very first thing he said to me was,
"Hey! You did a phenomenal job yesterday!"
Wait a minute - what? I thought to myself.
He continued,
"You are just getting started and will have many more opportunities. Nice work."
It was in that moment I realized someone believed in me more than I believed in
Myself - and my perception of myself was transformed.
I said thank you, and walked out, never having told him my intended words about quitting.
After that, I went on to continue working that job and started investing in my personal growth, taking leadership courses, etc.
And within 2 years I got an opportunity to speak in front of the entire company. all executives and board of directors including the CEO.
The best compliment I received from the CEO was, "Vamsi, you are one of the best, authentic public speakers I know."
He then gave me an opportunity to be on his board as an advisor.
All of this - birthed from that very first speech...
a speech I thought I had bombed.
Sometimes we just need permission, a perspective from someone else, so...
here's yours today:
you can do this.
I'm so grateful I took that first step,
and I'm grateful to be where I am now.

When you feel overwhelmed... Talk to Weirdos...
I came across this idea a decade ago…."Talk to Weirdos." It is from Steve Jobs.
It was entirely outside of my comfort zone…
Here is the IDEA: chat with pirates, hang with misfits, and eat with oddballs…
We will never grow in creativity, curiosity, enthusiasm, and wisdom by having conversations with people who think, work, play, and live just like us.
➡️If you are an IT engineer... go and talk with a small business owner...
➡️If you are a financial advisor, go and have a meal with a farmer...
➡️If you are an entrepreneur, go and drink coffee with a tattoo artist....
➡️If you are a project manager... travel with a teacher....
Such moves will make you rich.... slow down and think about it.
Your growth lives not in the safe harbor but out in the blue ocean.
And life's most significant risk is in taking no risks.
Meet people who are different from you!
Ask them questions, eat their food, learn from their lessons, and listen to their stories.
Because everyone we meet has a lesson to teach and a story to tell if we have the courage to be open to them....
I have been implementing this idea religiously... and this is helping me to expand my horizons...
Here is the line I TATTOed in my mind:

Are you taking advice from your manager, next-door neighbor, or co-worker?
Think twice
Because often, their advice is just... normal.
And what does normal get you?
Normal career growth.
Normal performance reviews.
Normal business opportunities.
A normal life.
Is that really what you want?
Let me be honest…
I suffered with everyday advice (I was in a trap) for the first decade of my career in the USA…
After 10+ years in the USA, I realized that normal advice led me to mediocrity…
I was stuck listening to my managers, friends, and people who are doing mediocre things…
I chose a different path… about 12 years ago…
I started learning from the outliers.
The ones with UNcommon results.
These are the people achieving remarkable results in every field—career, communication, wealth, business, fitness, parenting....
So my friend, before you follow any advice from your manager or co-worker, ask yourself:

That's where the breakthrough advice lives.

About eleven years ago, I made a decision that changed everything.

I attended a personal growth conference in California.

At that time, I was working full-time as an IT Manager.

I took two days off work and invested $1200 of my own money to be there.

During that conference, one speaker pointed directly at me and asked a question that stopped me in my tracks:

He pointed his hand and asked, what's your name?

I said, " Vamsi "

He asked me the following question?

“Vamsi, WHO is on your side?”

I responded, “My manager, team, wife, kids, parents…”

He smiled and asked again, “Vamsi, who is on your side to guide you step by step in every stage of your career?”

I was puzzled and admitted, “I’m not sure I understand…”

He then showed me a picture of something similar below and asked, “What do you see here, Vamsi? ”

I answered, “Novak Djokovic and his coach.”

He nodded. “Exactly. Now, do you want to be like Novak in your field?”

Without hesitation, I said, “Absolutely.”

He leaned in and said, “Then model him.”

That was the end of our conversation, but it was the beginning of something much bigger.

That night, alone in my hotel room, I couldn’t stop thinking.✍🏼✍🏼✍🏼

In the world of sports, the spotlight is on the athletes—tennis players, football stars, cricketers, you name it.

But here’s the truth: even the most outstanding athletes don’t go it alone. They have coaches. They have mentors. They have a team.

Novak is already good at what he does...

But still, he surrounded himself with coaches, mindset experts, and fitness trainers...

I know I’m not going to be a tennis player...

But I knew one thing: I wanted to be the best at what I do.

That realization hit me like a lightning bolt.💥

Now, here’s why I’m sharing this with you:

Who’s on your side? Really think about it.

Don’t count your manager or client team lead.

🔴 Who’s there to guide you through every critical decision?

🔴 Who’s there to hand you the playbook for your next career move?

🔴 Who’s there to prepare you for that big interview?

🔴Who’s there to show you the blind spots you can’t see?

🔴 Who’s there to give you precise direction when you’re feeling lost?

Think about it. It’s never too late to bring a coach or an accountability partner into your life.

Good is the enemy of Great, but Perfect is the enemy of everything.
Everything Great started with an imperfect beginning...
Let me share a story..
About six weeks ago, we allocated some financial resources for a marketing campaign to promote a workshop.
We started working with a marketing team for this campaign, and our marketing team requested me to create a promotional video on short notice... they always do that right :)
Entrepreneurs sometimes wear ten hats at once, unlike working for 9-5
I recorded a quick video on my phone and sent it off despite knowing it wasn’t perfect.
Life got busy. My business partners and I focused on delivering the workshop, and I had a few personal travel trips over the past few weeks.
I completely forgot about the video I sent to my marketing team...
I recently revisited that video and couldn’t help but smile :)
That was not a perfect video. Our marketing team spent a lot $$ promoting that video...
Guess what? In the past six weeks, we attracted 100+ people to our live workshops with that average video....
And that video got 130,000+ impressions.
There is a BIG lesson here.... Start Before You Are Ready....
Had I waited for the perfect video after my travels and decided to say yes to this campaign when I was not crazy busy...
We might have missed out on these fantastic results we created for 100+ people in that workshop...
My previous version would have waited for the perfect video...
My previous version would have waited for the perfect moment.
But sometimes, "good enough" is all you need to get started and achieve amazing results.
Don't let the pursuit of perfection hold you back from taking action and making progress.
Always remember these 3
Imperfect action > Perfect Inaction
Done is Better than Perfect
Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
I am sharing this because so many people have brilliant ideas and amazing dreams, but they are waiting for the perfect moment and perfect conditions. Please don't let that be you.
