Hello, friends - it’s so easy in our modern culture to forget the everlasting significance of Easter. This morning as I was pondering what Jesus did on the cross and by conquering death, my heart went to what he continues to do for us every day.
Life can be tough. We all have our own battles. The Apostle Paul was very transparent in 2 Corinthians 12 when he revealed that he had his own persistent “thorn in the flesh” that constantly plagued him. He writes how he begged God to take it away. But instead of removing it, God gave Paul a way to live with it.
Paul writes that God said, “My grace is sufficient for you.”
This powerful passage: “My grace is sufficient for you” declares Christ’s never ending, all encompassing love for us, a love that is active and powerful in the here and now.
Paul’s revelation echoes what the Psalmist said many years before in chapter 46:1: “God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in times of trouble.”
Jesus endured the agony of the cross and triumphantly conquered death for us - will he not also uphold us by his grace every day, every moment? The God who died for us does not then decide to abandon us. Never. Ever. He is with us every moment, providing His help and underserved favor for all who tap into it.
Every day - every moment - that help and undeserved favor are ours to accept. His grace is sufficient for every problem; for every day.
Spurgeon (a theologian I highly recommend said):
“This sufficiency is declared without any limiting words, and therefore I understand the passage to mean that the grace of our Lord Jesus is sufficient to uphold thee, sufficient to strengthen thee, sufficient to comfort thee, sufficient to make thy trouble useful to thee, sufficient to enable thee to triumph over it, sufficient to bring thee out of it, sufficient to bring thee out of ten thousand like it, sufficient to bring thee home to heaven… O child of God, I wish it were possible to put into words this all-sufficiency, but it is not. Let me retract my speech: I am glad that it cannot be put into words, for if so it would be finite, but since we never can express it, glory be to God it is inexhaustible, and our demands upon it can never be too great. Here let me press upon you the pleasing duty of taking home the promise personally at this moment, for no believer here need be under any fear, since for him also, at this very instant, the grace of the Lord Jesus is sufficient.”
Jesus loves us like no other - I pray that each of us will freely tap into His love and grace every day.
