Today’s picture makes me smile, not only because it’s great to see the flowers blooming but also because I took the photo as I was leaving the inn Sunday. Looking at the photo now, you would never know it was FREEZING (thanks to our Chicagoland weather) but, noticing some tulips had joined the daffodils, I weathered the storm to get the shot (see below).

A couple of updates and openings for upcoming weekends:

1. I have been thinking of moving these periodic updates from Facebook to an email newsletter because of the headaches I have endured for years. I can not tell you how many times I’ve written an entry (sometimes long, sometimes shorts, usually with a photo) only to have the “death spin” pop up and my entry disappear after waiting up to 45 minutes for the such spin to go away. While I realize some may not want to provide their email, I can promise your information will remain private and only be used to send out the newsletter.

Fun Fact: I already forward my FB entries to a large group of guests that either don’t have Facebook or don’t see my entries in FB (because they get so many posts). So, feel free to message me with your email address if you would like to get added to the email alias. NOTE: Your email address will not shared as I BCC all recipients!

2. Hubby Tom & I have begun discussing his retirement plans as he turns 65 later this month. He’s been busy with all the decisions necessary at his age so we’ve decided to tackle the BIG decide since he’s already spending time on the subject.

This relates to update #1 (above) because I’m hoping to have him take over maintenance of the Renwick Inn website and add a link where people can provide their email to begin receiving the Newsletter (and also get an “unsubscribe” button added as well). But I don’t want to wait because there are so many things I want to tell you about and can’t BEAR to deal with Facebook much longer.

My plan is to provide a couple of FB entries about the above-noted move over the next month (or 2) to get anyone interested in staying in touch onto the email list and then I’ll only use Facebook to reply to new inquiries, etc.

3. Anyone looking to get away for some “ME Time” or “Girl Time”? Here are the available spots in April and May….
APR 28-30 - 2 spots
May 12-14 (Mother’s Day) - 6 spots
May 19-21 - 6 spots

As we approach our 10-year business anniversary in the fall, I am so excited for the next phase of Renwick Inn and look forward to sharing some much more information on a regular basis with all of you! Until next time Soul Tribe… (it’ll make sense after you read the following quote)

“Stay Positive. Forgive Others. Invest in yourself. Trust your instincts. Lead with an open heart. Don’t let others ruin your day. Do things that bring you joy. Be of service to humanity. Find your Soul Tribe. Love Yourself.”
- Lewis Howes

March is National Craft Month so, in honor of such, I decided to take a quick pic of my craft table. Yes, it IS a mess and I feel like no matter what I do, I can’t keep it clean.

Does anyone keep their work area clean and, if so, how do you manage to do it? I’ve been told to clean up between projects but I literally don’t think about it when I’m deep into crafting - UGH!!

March 31 - February 2nd retreat has 3 spots available so let me know if anyone is interested in a last minute getaway!

“Creative minds are rarely tidy.” -unknown… maybe this can be my mantra and I’ll continue to grow my craft pile(s)

Until next time…

Happy Saturday! I know it’s rare for me to post on weekends but, even though I have no quilters at the inn for this weekend’s retreat, I had to acknowledge that today is National Quilting Day - whoop whoop.

Any quilters celebrating by crafting today? If do, what are you quilting (pics are always encouraged) ?

Non-quilters… are you showing solidarity by doing your craft of choice today? Pics please!!

Have a great day one & all! Until next time..

Happy Wednesday one and all….

I’ve gotta fill some spots coming up (March & April) so please look over the weekends listed below and let me know if any of them work for “me” time OR
a girls’ weekend:

March 17-19th – 5 spots
March 31 – April 2nd – 8 spots
April 21-23rd – 5 spots
April 28-30th – 6 spots

Ok, I admit today’s photo is NOT related to Renwick Inn except in some kind of 6-degrees way. My many visits to Oregon to visit my brothers have never included a visit to the house used in “The Goonies” movie in Astoria.

The prior owners had a sign at the bottom of the hill indicating that the police would be called if anyone trespassed on their property. But NOW, the house has been sold and the new owner (a businessman from Kansas) is a Goonies fan and wants to preserve the house and allow access to it.

GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!!

Hello everyone…. I’m trying to get back to my routine entries to provide updates about Renwick Inn as well as let you know when I have openings available within the next month.

But first, I want to explain today’s photo. I ran across the mugs while cleaning out a room at home and it made me think about Thomas Edison’s quote “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”.

A long time ago (in a land NOT far far away - it was Lisle), one of my kids’ teachers and I bonded over our LOVE of scrapbooking and we soon learned that we both were tossing around the idea of creating a business for crafters.

We had many brainstorming sessions until we landed on a concept we both liked and agreed upon. Once the name was decided (yes, it was Gone Scrappin’), we had some sample mugs created to decide on any changes. It wasn’t until we started to dig into the nitty gritty and having meetings with prospective hotels that everything started to crumble.

Attempts to get “back on track” failed and calling it quits was more devastating than I could have ever anticipated. I stopped scrapbooking for a while because I didn’t want to be reminded of what a failure I was.

As you all know, I did climb out of my hole and get back to making my dream a reality, this time on my own (with my family) so my vision could be realized without compromise. Plus, it wasn’t a TOTAL failure because the mugs should look familiar. I found the mugs I would use once Renwick Inn came into being!

If anyone is interested in a March stay at the result of my vision, here’s what is available:

March 10-12th (2 spots available)
March 17-19th (2 spots available)

Until next time… oh, wait I almost forgot my quote

“March is a tomboy with tousled hair, a mischievous smile, mud on her shoes and a laugh in her voice.” -Hal Borland

Hello… it’s been a while since I posted because life got busy with the holidays & tax prep but I’m now able to exhale…

There are some openings available for the weekend of FEB 17-19th - two bedrooms and up to 7 spots so please reach out if you’re interested.

Happy Fall ya'll... I hope everyone is enjoying the season and we're going to have a couple of days of warm(er) weather so make the most of it!!

Today's photo is to show the trees and fence installed where Indian Boundary Road once existed... it is still a strange site to see. With all traffic now going down Renwick Road, it is VERY busy and I'm suggesting that guests use their turn indicator when arriving.

While the stop signs are still up, a lot of vehicles have taken to ignoring them and, therefore, have picked up a lot of speed by the time they get to the Renwick Inn driveway. Using your turn signal will eliminate the possibility of vehicles trying to pass you just before you turn into the driveway.

Lastly, for those of you that have expressed an interest in attending the weekly December Daily gatherings on Wednesdays at the inn, I have sent out an email. If you did not receive the email (sent earlier today) but plan to attend, please drop me a note so I can add you! Until next time...

Two upcoming events that I want to mention:

1. Craft Day on Saturday November 26th
9am - 9pm
$30 includes access to Snack Center
Payment accepted: Cash, Check, Electronic Payment
NOTE: Six (yes, 6!) spots have already been reserved so don't wait too long!!

2. December Daily - see prior FB entries for details about the project created by Ali Edwards (started in 2007!). There is a private FB Group for this endeavor and already has 16 members!

While not everyone can attend our planned in-person gatherings, I have now finalized the dates & times for them and encourage anyone interested in attending to sign up ($10 for all gatherings, not per gathering) by reaching out to me either via a reply to this entry or email/text. I currently have three (4) signed up: myself, Brianna, JoDel, and Martha!

We will meet at Renwick Inn on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm beginning November 30th and ending on December 28th (unless, as a group, we agree to meet one final time on January 4th to wrap up our projects).

Please note that you are welcome to bring their dinner (not everyone will be able to eat prior to our meeting) and/or snacks if you want something other than what is available at the Snack Center (Jodel - I will be bringing the Honey Mustard Pretzel Crisps).

This is will be a very laid back gathering to work on our projects, share ideas, show our progress, have some laughs, etc.

I am trying to secure a larger-type monitor to hook up to my laptop so we can play Ali's recorded "Prep Day" session in the background along with some other inspiring videos for us.

***. Reach out for either event or both!! Until next time...

"This is the power of gathering: it inspires us, delightfully, to be more hopeful, more joyful, more thoughtful: in a word, more alive." - Alice Waters
