My favorite is always Toad Suck and Ni**od. From the house lake Ni**od is just a short distance, you can walk to r drive through the campground to the lake. There is great fishing as well as swimming

Ever notice how some Arkansas place names don't sound anything like they look?

Around the Hollis Country Store, we've heard just about every pronunciation imaginable over the years. Don't worry - we've all been there! Around here, though, this is how the locals say 'em...

📍 Fourche — Pronounced like "push," but with an F sound. Just pretend the "r" isn't there.

📍 Ouachita — "Wash-uh-tah"

📍 Petit Jean — "Petty Gene"

📍 Forked Mountain — Two syllables is key: "For-ked"

📍 Saline — "Suh-Leen"

📍 Casa — Usually "Kay-Suh," though some old-timers still call it "Casey"

📍 Oppelo — "Opp-uh-low"

📍 Solgohachia — "Saw-guh-hatch-ee"

📍 Satuma — "Suh-Too-Muh"

📍 Aplin — It looks simple, but we hear it mispronounced all the time. It's "App-Lynn," with the emphasis on "App"

📍 Adona — "Uh-Dough-Nuh"

📍 Perryville — Our county seat has two accepted local pronunciations. Some folks say "Perry-ville." Others have always called it "Pair-Vul."

📍 Toad Suck & Ni**od — Those two don't need any pronunciation help... they're just classic Arkansas names that always make visitors smile!

Truth is, learning these little things is part of getting to know the Arkansas backroads. Before long, you'll be sounding like you've been coming to Hollis your whole life.
