Unfortunately FWC just announced the Closure of Scallop Season in the Bay for 2026.

We wanted to share an important update regarding the upcoming 2026 bay scallop season.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announced on August 13 that the 2026 recreational bay scallop harvest season in the Gulf County Zone, including St. Joseph Bay, has been closed due to very low scallop abundance found during this summer’s survey. FWC made this precautionary decision to help protect the scallop population and support future seasons.

While we know scalloping may have been one of the activities you were looking forward to, St. Joseph Bay remains open for all the other activities that make this such a special place to vacation!

There is still plenty to enjoy during your stay:

Boating and fishing on St. Joseph Bay and the Gulf
Kayaking and paddleboarding the calm, clear waters of the bay
Swimming and exploring the shoreline
Spending the day on the beautiful Cape San Blas beaches
Exploring St. Joseph Peninsula State Park
Watching the incredible sunrises and sunsets
Relaxing and simply enjoying time together with family and friends

And, of course, you'll still have all the amenities at your vacation home to enjoy between your adventures.

Although scallop harvesting is prohibited in the Gulf County Zone this season, FWC notes that scallop harvesting remains open in state waters east of the westernmost point of St. Vincent Island through Hernando County.
