UPDATE: THE CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. For some reason we cannot find out how to turn off commenting to our post. So my last comment on the thread is the end of the contest participants. We are now busy getting everyones name entered so we can draw for tomorrows winner. Will be announced tomorrow, July 4th at noon. STAY tuned, it just might be you!!!

UPDATE: We here at Labrador Retrievers of Slatter and Kimbers Kennel would like to thank each and everyone of you for liking, commenting and sharing our page for the give-away in Celebration of July 4th. Due to the OVERWHELMING response and incoming messages, phone calls etc, we have made the decision to move UP the drawing for the gorgeous AKC Labrador puppy to July 4th,yes, that’s right… tomorrow at noon! We just cannot keep up with the excitement and response that just keeps building 😊 We will however, keep the post going until 5pm today for those just now seeing the post. We will turn off the commenting TODAY at 5pm so we can get all those who have commented, liked and shared our page into the drawing. We will announce the winner tomorrow at noon .One thing to keep in mind is this baby girl will need to be picked up at OUR location. Being a giveaway, you must be aware that she is located in LUFKIN TX. We will not be able to ship her or meet you. You must be willing to make the drive in person. Hey everyone!!! Due to it being 4th of July week and the fact that I have a family full of Military as well as a DPS Trooper—- we have decided that we would like to give away a female chocolate lab.. She is AKC Registered and has had 2 rounds of shots. She will be 3 months old this week!! All you have to do is like, share and comment(only comment if you are willing to adopt this pretty baby!!) We will do the drawing this Friday!!

Our Story

We are Herb & Joyce McCaulla and we own Oak Haven Vineyard and Inn. It has always been a dream of Herb’s to run a bed and breakfast and make wine as he did as a child with his grandfather. It never occurred to him that someday he would have a vineyard of his own to work and play in, much less make wine.

Several years ago, the bug really hit and Herb started attending some of the Nebraska Wine and Grape Growers Association (NWGGA) meetings and field days here in Nebraska. Soon, he left his job and went to work for Soaring Wings Vineyard & Winery in Springfield, Nebraska. There he learned the commercial wine business from Jim & Sharon Shaw, owners, of Soaring Wings.

After a two and a half year career in commercial wine making, vineyard management, wine sales, tasting room host, and all around cellar rat work, he decided he needed to go back and get a real job for a while. So, over the last few years while preparing for retirement, Herb has continued his interest in wine and wine making and decided to build a small vineyard for our own use and pleasure.

Joyce has spent the last 35 plus years working at a local bank as a vice-president and has recently retired, partially! She is currently working part time and spending a lot of time helping take care of one of our nine grandkids. Quietly preparing for Herb's retirement adventure into winemaking and lodging.
