The H.C. Laack hotel built in 1892, received National Historic status in 1986. This photo, taken about 1970, give or take. Edward Mitchell purchased the Laack hotel in 1943 changing the name to the Mitchell Hotel. Mitchell sold the hotel to Lyle Collins who operated the business for 24 years. The cream city brick was painted and the front entrance greatly altered. After a series of owners, James O'Dwanny completed renovations and opened the 52 Stafford offering fine dining and B&B accommodations. In 2019 it was known as the Fig & Pheasant. Renovations are underway which include the adjacent Laack block, circa 1889. The business will be known as the Henry Christopher, namesake for the original owner. These buildings are jewels of our downtown.
