The storm hasn’t even shown up and the ocean is already making its case. Red flags all week, so this is a watch-it-from-the-window kind of beach.

Fall starts today, allegedly. The ocean did not get the memo. Neither did we.

Welcome to Local Summer, the best six weeks of the year and the ones nobody posts about. The beach is yours before breakfast and yours again at sunset. Parking? Directly in front of wherever you are going. Downtown. On a Saturday. Yes, really.

The rides are still spinning up the boards, the swings still look ridiculous against a black sky, and the weekend crowd is a fraction of what it was in August.

Your weekend, roughly: coffee and an empty beach before anyone else is up. Bikes south until the street names change. The antique shops, which will take more time than you planned. Dinner with no reservation and no wait. Back out to the jetty for the last of the light.

Two nights is a dream. Midweek is magic. Pack a bathing suit and a sweatshirt, because September at the Shore likes keeping its options open. We will put you right on the sand. Link in bio, or call us. We pick up 😉📞

Our first season at The Windswept is winding down, and we want to say thank you. We took over the hotel just before summer began and you welcomed us anyway.

Our staff deserves most of the credit. They handled the whole transition and kept giving people the same friendly, personal service this place has been known for.

You also told us honestly what the property needs, and we were listening. Extensive renovations start as soon as the season ends. Once the construction schedule is firm we will share more, including whether we stay open through the winter.

Until then, reservations are open through the end of October. Local summer is one of the best times to be here. Still warm, half as crowded, lower rates. Link in bio to book, or to join the mailing list, which is where the 2027 calendar gets announced first.

Nicole has been bringing her family to The Windswept since her oldest was small enough to be carried. This week she sent us a folder of photos. Over nine thousand of them, she said.

In her words:

“One day they’ll outgrow family vacation. But until then, we will keep coming back to the place that has been a part of their childhoods since the beginning. Here’s to another year at The Windswept.”

Ten years of stays. A move from the East Coast to Colorado. And somehow, The Windswept is still part of Maria’s Jersey Shore story.

After we wrote to introduce ourselves as the new owners, longtime guest Maria Fiorello wrote back, and sent along these photographs from her stays over the years: an evening from the upper boardwalk landing, a rainbow after a storm, and the moon over the water.

She told us about escaping Philadelphia for a few days by the ocean, about our “exceptional, just the kindest, warm hearted, sweet and so accommodating” staff, and about coming back. “I enjoyed every stay, sincerely”. 💙🌊

That’s the kind of history we inherited here. A motel is rooms and keys and reservations. A place people return to for ten summers is something else.

Maria, thank you for sharing a piece of your Windswept story. We’ll be here when you and Jim make your way back to the shore.

Sandy toes welcome.

Two hundred steps to the water, a pool that stays open till the light goes, and a rail for every wet towel. The kind of place where you get the same room the same week every summer, where the neighbors on the deck know your kids’ names by Friday, and where nobody asks what you do for a living.

Point Pleasant Beach. Rooms freshened up, salt air exactly the same.
