Follow us here for news and information on Sly Park at Jenkinson Lake, Caples Lake, Silver Lake West, and Forebay Reservoir. The purpose of the Sly Park Recreation Area page is to share useful information about programs, facilities, and experiences at Sly Park. This page is a LIMITED PUBLIC FORUM subject to strict community standards prohibiting obscenities, sexually explicit or racially

derogatory language, defamatory comments, and comments suggesting or encouraging illegal activities. Any posts violating these standards are subject to removal, and the author's future access may be limited or denied. At Jenkinson Lake you can camp, picnic, hike, bike, fish, or go boating! Sly Park Recreation Area ranks among the most popular destinations in northern California’s El Dorado County. Campers, hikers, boaters, anglers, equestrians, photographers, and all-around nature lovers enjoy Sly Park. Sly Park Recreation Area has won "Best Recreational Facility" in the Mountain Democrat Readers Choice awards several times (most recently in 2023), and Best of KCRA-3 voted Sly Park the "Best Campground"! Campers:
Sly Park Recreation Area offers eight (8) family campgrounds. Pinecone, Sierra, and Chimney campgrounds are the closest to the water and can be the most congested. Jenkinson offers tent campsites that are popular with all visitors. Hilltop is less congested and accommodates some larger motor homes. Hazel, Rainbow, Kamloop, and Dogwood, located at the back of the park away from the water, offer a nice woodsy experience. Stonebraker, adjacent to the boat launch parking lot, offers only four (4) campsites away from other campgrounds. Trail Users:
Sly Park Recreation Area offers over eight (8) miles of hiking, mountain bike, and equestrian trails. Trailhead parking is located four (4) miles past the gate at Hazel Meadow. This location is best for hiking to the waterfall. A second trailhead parking lot, Bumpy Meadows, is located just past the second dam on Mormon Immigrant Trail. The use fee for Bumpy Meadows is $5 payable at the self-serve station within the parking lot. Please call the gatehouse 530-295-6824 if you need assistance while on the trail. Boaters:
There are two (2) boat ramps; the Main ramp is near the main entrance and the Stonebraker boat ramp is 2.3 miles past the main gate within the 5-mile an hour zone. Kayak, paddleboats, and canoes can be rented at the Stonebraker Boat Launch weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There is a courtesy dock within the main day use area. Day-use:
The Main day use area is located a half mile from the gatehouse entrance. Day use tables and BBQs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations: http://eid.org/recreation/imbeddedreservations

‼ Hwy 88 Facilities Opening for the Season ‼
🌲Staff have been busy cleaning up the campground and day use areas after the winter storms.
💦 Silver Lake West Campground will have water this year! It's been a long time in the making but the water is flowing again. Please note that camping prices will return to normal with the return of the water ($30/night, $15 for any additional vehicles).
⏰The campground will open at noon on Friday May 22nd, and other facilities will be staffed and open that weekend as well!
💲Day use and boating prices are increasing this season; day use is now $10 with boat launch being an additional $10. While this might feel like a big shift, prices have not changed in more than a decade, while the cost of staff and supplies have risen drastically. These fees are in line with other agencies and allow us to continue providing services to these areas.

Boat Launch Updates 🛥‼️
Launch restrictions are still in place at Sly Park / Jenkinson Lake, but there are some changes for the 2026 boating season.
*Any boat with a valid EID quarantine or exit seal can continue launch.
*We are still only taking decontaminations from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency locations.
*NEW - We will now accept a quarantine or exit tag from another waterbody but only if ALL the following conditions are met:
-EID must be able to verify the tag number, boat identification number, and date installed in the national Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination (WID) database, and
-The tag must connect the boat to the trailer in a way that the boat cannot be launched without removing the tag, and
-The tag was installed in a waterbody that is not considered “positive” for invasive mussels, and
-The tag must be installed for more than 30 days, and
-The tag is intact and not damaged or tampered with as determined by EID, and
-The boat is clean, drained, and dry.

As always, the most up-to-date information can be found on our dedicated webpage eid.org/boating.
