We’ve recently added an advanced water filtration system to our commercial ice maker. While we already had a whole house filtration system and a basic filter to the ice maker, we could still notice a slight “taste” when we used this ice in our drinks. We’ve tested the ice firsthand and found that this advanced filtration system has eliminated all remaining “taste”. Many of you use this ice machine just to fill our complimentary beach coolers, but you can now use it for your drinks as well.

Pro tip: our commercial ice maker holds about 35 pounds of ice, and it can make about 150 pounds of ice per day. If you need to fill multiple coolers (for an all day boat trip, etc), just use the clear plastic bins that we keep above the laundry room fridge. Fill them up the evening before and put them in the freezer, and you should have plenty of ice for your extended outing. It takes about 4 hours or so to completely refill the ice maker’s bin.

PS - we added this ice maker last year because of a guest suggestion. We thought it was a great idea that all our other guests would enjoy as well. Please continue to message us with any suggestions, as we would love to add them as our budget and space constraints allow.

To dispel any rumors, you are NOT REQUIRED to have a dog with you to enjoy our North Cape San Blas beaches. It may seem that way since 3 of the families in the video are having an evening stroll with their dogs, but rest assured it’s perfectly acceptable to access our beach without having a doggie chaperone. 🤣

If you and your doggies will be staying with us this year, please consider donating any leftover dog food to our local St. Joseph Bay Humane Society (open bags are fine). They are conveniently located at 1007 10th St in Port St Joe, east of the courthouse off 71. Many of you will be driving very close by as you head back home.

All donated food goes to their Pet Food Bank, which local pet owners (many who are seniors on a fixed income) can access for free when they are struggling to buy food for their pets.

We now have new (to us) dining room furniture! Elizabeth, Kara, and Madison from Coastline spotted this heavy duty table and chair set and scooped it up for us. The table is made of reclaimed wood and is a nice update to our dining room. I ran out of time to sand and stain it when I was there earlier this month, so that will need to wait until our next trip.

As a follow up, here’s additional video of the beach renourishment near The Rocks, courtesy of the Edwards family. Before the renourishment the gulf was pretty much up to those houses, so you can really see the huge improvement. The large sand dunes in front of the houses are also new, and they’ve begun planting sea grass on the dunes this week.

To the left of the “dome/ufo” house you can see the Sunrise/Sunset condos that literally had a seawall built in front to protect them, as the waves would consistently reach it.

The beach in that area is pretty much open to the public again except for active construction areas where they still need to move those huge rock piles out into the gulf to act as breakwaters. The plan was to have 8 breakwaters in all, running parallel to the new beach should significantly reduce future erosion.

For context, Pineapple Plantation is about a mile north (towards the tip of the Cape) of here and has been unaffected by the construction work.

May 1-Oct 31 is Turtle Nesting Season! Gulf County is the largest nesting place for Loggerhead Sea Turtles in Northwest Florida, and is home to more than 28% of the Loggerhead Sea Turtle nests.

Thank you so much for observing Gulf County’s Leave No Trace Ordinance! Bringing back all beach gear and filling in every hole when you are done for the day is so helpful for our nesting turtles.

We proudly offer 2 large carts to make it easy for you to carry our complimentary beach gear back and forth from the beach. Thank you for not leaving our gear on the beach after dark, where it is subject to confiscation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Unlike the pictures from the Sheriff’s Office page, we’ve never lost any gear because folks left them on the beach. We have the best guests!

They’ve wrapped up the beach renourishment by The Rocks about 2 weeks ago. Huge improvement over what it was. They’ve created huge sand dunes as well, so it was difficult getting good pictures of the new beach.

I was able to get some pictures from our beach of the dredge that they used to pipe the sand, and I happened to snap a few pictures from the master bedroom deck as they were towing the dredge away.

The access point at The Rocks is still open.

For those who haven’t yet stayed at the Cape these pictures don’t provide much context, as they still weren’t letting folks out on the new sand while I was there as they still needed to move the large rocks on the beach out into the water to make breakwaters, which should significantly reduce future erosion.

However, I have circled the damaged parking pads and the undersides of the two houses next to the townhouses that were always in the water. Before the renourishment the surf would often come underneath these two homes. At the end of the pictures I’ve tried to show maps to designate where this work is in relation to Pineapple Plantation.

Here’s a great drone video courtesy of Coneheads that shows a better overall view. My yellow highlighted area in one of the last pictures is a little off with respect to the extent of the work, as my finger wasn’t calibrated correctly.😀

We’ve been busy! Pineapple Plantation will greet your next stay with some major outdoor makeovers. The siding, doors, trim, and deck railing have all been repainted. We’ve also completely replaced the front and back outdoor stairs - we are waiting to let the wood season a little before painting those.

These items have been on our “to do” list for several years, but they’ve always been a lower priority compared to our other upgrades, such as the bathroom remodel, new appliances, large 80 gallon hot water heater, replacing the sliding doors, etc. However, the timing seemed right to get them done now, so we hope you enjoy the refreshed look.

Pro tip: don’t wait until your last day to finish taking all your pictures; contrary to popular belief the sun doesn’t shine on the Cape all 365 days of the year!😀

PS - I had ordered a new marine grade handle for the ground level door but I accidentally ordered the wrong backset length,so that will need to wait for another day.

For almost 20 years we had rented every summer on the Panhandle, before putting down roots and buying on North Cape San Blas 5 years ago. Why North Cape? The video (taken yesterday 4/27/26) says it all. I basically had the entire beach to myself for the sunset.

North Cape avoids all the hassle and drama of dealing with row upon row of vendor beach chairs, as well as arguments over “wet sand” vs “dry sand”, mean high tide line, and roped off beaches. It’s just so very peaceful.
