One of the best things about staying at Barrier Dunes is how close you are to St. Joseph Peninsula State Park!
These photos were taken on a walk through the park’s interior trail, one of our favorite places to truly unplug. From a quiet overlook near the north end of the Cape, you can take in views of St. Joe Bay on one side and the Gulf on the other—a reminder of just how special this stretch of Florida really is.

The park covers over half of Cape San Blas and is a treasure trove of wildlife sightings!
A few local tips:
• The park is not dog-friendly, so plan a good walk for your pup beforehand and let him nap while you explore
• Prefer water over hiking? Pontoon boats and kayaks are available to rent inside the park through Scallop Cove Too - State Park Concession and Rentals
• Staying in Barrier Dunes means you’re just steps away from all of it
