Red River Camps

Happy new year to our dear friends and family. I need to start the year off with an apology for neglecting my winter duties (inquiries and responsiveness) during this off season so far. I spent a few weeks away on adventures, but I find that I'm still beyond burnout from the last few years. I'm trying to work my way back to being on top of things, and I very much appreciate your patience. I did update the online calendar, so please note that we have good availability in July and August, with a little in May and the beginning of September.

We did make it to camp just before Christmas to check on things, and everything looks good, except that Irving is cutting the #*$% out of our road, so prepare yourself for that when you visit next summer. 😞 A lot of you know that I also had great concerns about the cutting done by the state within the township itself, and I'm happy to say that they did agree to do "our hill" (behind the cabins, bounded by the road between camp, down to the falls, and then up around to the outlet) by hand, as well as pull back from the campsites on Pushineer and tidy the skidder trails and yards elsewhere. If you're one of the thousands of people who love Deboullie, please give them a big "thank you" for those considerations.
(One last note on the cutting- if you sent me a letter regarding Irving this summer, please see my comment below.)

Let's see, what else...? To everyone who was hoping for pictures of tiny Tilkka puppies last month, I'm sorry to say we'll have to wait until probably next year for those, but that does mean we'll get to experience the Westminster show this year, and that will be fun. (We did the AKC nationals again last month, and she received Select B***h amongst a lovely lineup of pups.) (She still prefers chasing deer trails, though.) Brazil was also a fantastic time with old and new friends, where I learned that I'm SO MUCH better at kiting on snow than on water. I started getting it figured out by the end of the trip, though!

Hey friends! Two quick updates:

First, if you come to Deboullie from Portage, the roads have changed slightly between Miles 5 and 10 on the Hewes Brook Road. I updated them on the website but haven't gotten new index cards printed out for the gate and Coffin's yet.

Second, if you use Weather Underground, you can take a look right at our weather here at camp before you arrive- we put up a little weather station a couple of weeks ago. (We'll see if I can get it to work all through the winter!)

To the person (people?) who replaced our sign at Mile 8 on the Hewes Brook Road: thank you so much! It's absolutely lovely, and we're humbled and grateful. 🤗

I have a couple more to replace this week, as well. They won't be nearly as nice, but they'll get you here!

Hope everyone is enjoying that no-man's-land week between Christmas and New Year's! We filled ourselves up on cheese and chocolate, and then headed in to check on our favorite place in the world. ❄️🎄 What a lovely day it was (and here's hoping the rain in the forecast isn't too bad).

Who's ready for a little island relaxation? Gettin' the ol' girl ready for her (as far as we know) 138th year. 🥰

I have a few inquiries to finalize tonight, but Gloria and I took a look at the reservation book on a quick break today, and while we want to share the woods with everyone who loves them, we're currently AT CAPACITY for June, July, September, and October. We do have a good amount of availability in August, but unless we have cancellations, that's pretty much all we have left for the season. You guys are too good to us- thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Well, my friends, here we are again! Hard to believe we started year 16 for me and 21 for Gloria today, but we're so excited to welcome you back to Deboullie. It's funny- as soon as guests arrive in the spring, it's just like we never left, or like waking up from a dream of winter. But on the other hand, we also know that the space between the first guests and the final guests of the season will feel like no more than four or five heartbeats. It's a strange ol' life here in the woods, and I still wouldn't trade it for the world.

I know I'm terrible at keeping our social media up-to-date, and I know I won't do any better at that this year than any other, but I'll try. (A pretty empty promise coming from someone whose computer is sitting in town right now, but hey... 😆)
