Always a good idea to check your drive system for debris regularly, found this piece of wood stuck in the variable drive pulley of a toro today. Crazy thing is it still drove, but the noise was horrible! A new set of belts and she will be good to go!

Let’s talk spark plugs! What color is your spark plug?

These guys are often blamed when our engine starts running rough, however, spark plugs are the victims of many factors and can actually point you towards other issues and show you what to adjust to get a healthy engine. Simply replacing a plug will only cover symptoms for a short time rather than truly fixing issues.

A dark plug can indicate fouling due to too much fuel (aka rich fuel mixture ) or oil consumption issues.

A light gray plug tells you you are not getting enough fuel (aka lean fuel mixture).

A crisp tan color? This means your combustion is healthy and you fuel to air mixture is just right!

How do I find my model code so I can use it to find manuals, parts, etc?

Model code locations vary by brand, but here are some of the common locations:
-EQUIPMENT-
-Riding mower: sticker under the seat
-Push mowers: sticker/plaque behind the engine on the mow deck
-Generators: plaque/sticker on the frame or generator body
-ENGINES-
Briggs and Stratton: etched onto the top of the valve cover, sticker on the air intake, plaque on top of engine cover
Kohler: listed on the sticker on top of the engine

What oil do I use in my mower?

If you’ve ever asked this question I’ve got a quick tip for you! Your owners manual contains a chart similar to this one that tells you what oil to use depending on the conditions I recommend using the oil that has the widest range to best preserve to condition of your engine. If you don’t have your owners manual, use your engine model code to find one online.
