I will share with you some of the things I learned today about pumpkin picking for our road side stand...
- Do not wait until the end of a long hot full work day. Pumpkin picking is work in itself. Not fun.
- Do not go alone. Take someone stronger than you to do the heavy lifting.
- Most of the pretty, "ready for picking" that haven't been destroyed by the deer are hidden under sticker bushes. And they are all HUGE! Which is why you shouldn't be alone.
- If you do happen to find "the perfect one", after carefully cutting it off the vine, don't try rolling it to the truck...the perfect stem will break off! 😬
- The more exhausted you become, the more difficult it will be to lift your feet...and pumpkin vines are strong enough to take you down.
So there you have it - lessons learned. But our roadside stand is open, ready for business. Stop by when you're ready for some pumpkins. $2/$3 Sm/med/lg. Gourds, 3/$1.
U-pick, any size $2. And now I know why it's always cheaper for you to pick. 😉

As a special surprise for her about to be husband, today's bride prerecorded her singing the entrance hymn as her Dad walked her down the isle to her waiting groom. Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautiful bride.

It's National Wine Day! Not sure why, or even who decided that it was but hey, why not? The Finger Lakes has a long history of wine making, and that includes Prattsburgh.

Fedderman Wine Company was the first black owned winery in the United States. The winery located on Route 53 South produced both red and white wines. Founder Raymond Fedderman was a former migrant farm worker who was encouraged to start the winery by prominent local wine maker Greyton Taylor and son Walter Taylor. Although many wineries exist in the area, Fedderman’s is no longer among them. Do you have a story about Fedderman's winery to share?
