While walking along the Lily Pond, you might spot one of our favorite early spring blooms: the Trout Lily!

Named for the mottled, trout-like pattern on its leaves, this delicate yellow flower only blooms for a short window each spring before disappearing until next year.

🌱 A single Trout Lily plant can take up to 7 years before it flowers for the first time. These plants thrive in rich, undisturbed woodlands and are an important early nectar source for pollinators just waking up after winter.

Because they grow so slowly, Trout Lilies are especially vulnerable to being picked or trampled, so please watch where you step!

It looks like Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction of six more weeks of winter is holding strong ❄️ with cold days, sub-zero nights, and snow so frozen it catches the light like glass. Even still… there’s nothing quite like a winter morning in the forest.

Look at this epic trophy we found on the trails at Tohi this morning!

This is a deer antler, and it wasn’t broken or lost in a fight, it was shed naturally. Each winter, male white-tailed deer drop their antlers as energy is redirected toward surviving the cold winter months. By spring, this cycle begins anew, and another set of antlers grows back even stronger than before!
