Day 6
Yes, that's a white squirrel! Guests are often in disbelief... a wonder of Nature. They are not albino... see the dark eyes and the charcoal gray stripe down the back. The term Leucism describes the generic mutation that results in pigment loss yet retain some features containing pigment.

Myrtle is frequently seen at The Millhouse Inn and is often scampering throughout the gardens after breakfast. The Crepe Myrtle trees are her favorite, hence the name. Feisty? Yes! If there's any squirrel ruckus, she's the one doing the chasing. She loves to pose may be the most photographed squirrel in all of Quincy!

Day 5:
At the front of the Millhouse Inn is another special feature: The Little Free Library. Built to echo the design of the original house, it is placed for visitors, guests and passers by alike to engage with and foster enjoyment of reading. Dolly would approve! The concept: take a book and leave a book. They can be found all over the US.

The love of books is evident at The Millhouse Inn. Did you know that there's even a coloring book based on Quincy?! Books are thoughtfully placed in all guest rooms and public spaces. Travelers often leave behind their travel books. So much to engage with 📚.

Like sections in a library, each room at the Millhouse Inn is unique. That's part of the charm of staying at a B&B and why guests enjoy staying and returning. The upstairs rooms have 14 foot ceilings. The house itself is located in the Historic District and benefits from a vibrant community. A self-guided walking tour (yes, there's an app) is available to all and reveals the details of many of the iconic houses that surround you while staying in Quincy's historic district.

Day 4:
Let's talk food!
“Is breakfast included?”
“Yes, The Millhouse Inn is a Bed AND Breakfast.” The owner personally makes your individual breakfast. Communicating any allergies or dietary restrictions when checking in, enables your host to then design your breakfast. How cool is that?… one of many details that separates a B&B from the bigger, chain hotels where the owner will most definitely not be making your omlette.

Curiously, the dining room at the Millhouse Inn is upstairs where the front porch used to be. So, where is the kitchen you might ask? Downstairs. Your hosts are fit!

Stay for 7 days and each day the creative challenge is on... you’ll be offered a different dish each day. Frittata, omelette, pancakes, scrambled eggs, tamales, creamy corn casserole, fried eggs, French toast. Oh and guests are served a fruitcup with banana bread for starters while their orders are being taken and prepared.

Gluten free? Not a problem. Allergies? We will work around these and find substitutes as needed. Communication is key.

Food-wise, Quincy has many fast food outlets, there are also some AMAZING, family-owned eateries within walking distance. Check out Big Papas Chophouse, Bantam Bay, the Burned Beard Brewery and La Cabana Mexican Restaurant. Fabulous food, friends and fun!

Day Three:

The Millhouse Inn is an historic house and is over 180 years old. It has seen an INCREDIBLE spectrum of history. That's a lot of generations, a lot of change, a lot of evolution and a lot of breakfasts! A guest with a keen eye for detail might find the Heart ❤️ scratched into the pane of hand-crafted glass or note the 12 inch base-boards, or quietly have their mind blown when learning that, prior to 1925, the first floor was located on the ground floor... and on the corner of King and Madison Streets. Whaaaat?! (The historical maps are indeed a fabulous key to understanding the past! But how did they do it??)

In the private Rose Garden of today (that used to be part of the parking lot), guests can find a History Wall. It's located on your left as you step into this symmetrical garden nook. Over the years, a variety of curious objects have been literally unearthed from the Garden and they now hang on the fence for guests to explore. Old barrel hoops, a horse-shoe, Coca Cola/Pepsi Cola bottles, a flask of something (complete with stopper!), plyers, hinges, a stove cover, bulb, door k**b, marbles and golf balls (one melted!) There's a story for each object.... a window for guests to interact with history. What a unique and fascinating place to stay in North Florida; only thirty minutes from Tallahassee!

Day 2:

It's baby turtle season at the Millhouse Inn! Bundles of cuteness and more reasons to stay curious. The lush gardens are home to an array of resident wildlife. There are endless turtle appearances throughout the day and they thrive on the pineapple rinds and banana peels that are left out for them.

See the ferns swaying? Probably a turtle. Hear a rustling in the fall leaves? Probably a turtle. See an unusual player scooting across the croquet field? That's probably Post-It, the alpha turtle (see the yellow square on the back of his shell). There's also Flashlight (with the radiating markings shining out in all directions), Manos (Spanish for 'hand') and Dot Dot Dot... you get the idea!

Occasionally there will be one that has fallen on its back. Oh no! Not to worry though... other turtles have been seen coming to the rescue. Community is key in Quincy. How many turtles did you see today?

Day One:
There's an unusual and curious feature crafted into the lawn of the gardens at the Millhouse Inn. Have you seen it? Guests ask: "What is this?" They are invited to find the answer. To look at, it appears as a long rectangular stretch of velvety green that is higher in length than the surrounding grass. This 'green carpet' is in the middle of a larger lawn that in turn, is surrounded by crepe myrtles, azaleas, camellias, oak and tulip poplar trees.

To some guests, the answer might be that the lawn mower stopped working, that the gardener was interrupted or that it forms a border for the croquet game. No... cold❄️! It is as intentional as breakfast at a Bed and Breakfast 🏡.

The innkeeper then prompts: "A young child could find the answer in a flash." At this point the guest might give up and want to mow over it, or... is stretched to see from another perspective. In the case of the latter, the following question might be: "Can you play a game with it?" Getting warmer 🏝...

It's that moment, when the penny finally drops and the guest takes off their shoes and walks forward, barefoot in the luxurious, long grass, a playful smile on their face. The Jasmine that drapes over the arched garden-gate is positioned for the same reason. The guest experience at the Millhouse Inn is very important. Inhaling the scent of jasmine as you step into this historic property and let go of your cares for a moment is part of the package. Welcome in! Guests are welcome to walk barefoot in the grass (or not) and ground themselves amid tranquil surrounds. And so begins your stay at the Millhouse Inn.

The is a 3,750 mile, coast-to-coast journey from San Diego to San Augustine in the US. What an honor it was to host this astonishing young man who has dedicated his entire energy, since February, towards completing this run. Along the way, he's also fundraising to support The Royal Pregnancy Center. The Millhouse Inn has hosted many bicyclists on this route, but never anyone on foot.
