I just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone for helping out with the bed and breakfast! I also really want to give a big shout out to all of my regulars that would come back and stay! I will deeply miss all of the people and getting to know everyone. I closed on selling the bed and breakfast last week. It’s no longer a bed and breakfast sadly but here’s to new adventures. Thanks again to everyone!!!

Our Story

Back to Basics, owned by Dan and Tessa Meyer, was originally operated as a full-service salon from 1999-2018 in Quitaque, TX. They were forced to slow their business in 2011 after Tessa was diagnosed with a severe allergy to hair chemicals, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Hashimoto’s. During this time they also suffered the loss of a family member, celebrated the marriage of their oldest daughter Kammi and son-in-law Armando, and adopted their youngest daughter, Hannah. After taking time to tend to Tessa’s health and their family, Tessa and Dan reinvented Back to Basics as a bed & breakfast and spa in 2018.

Each of these life events clarified for Dan and Tessa the importance of spending quality time with those who matter most. Their desire is to create an experience for each of their guests in which they can gather at the table, share, eat, laugh, and make memories with the special people in their lives. There are no TVs here and the layout purposefully encourages movement, interaction, conversation, and connection. The Dining Room mural depicts people—mostly in twos—interacting, moving, and going through life TOGETHER.
