Attention Grants family ‼️. Please beware of this SCAM. This t-shirt is not associated with us and has not been given permission to resell our Grants name. There are various accounts (I would assume that were hacked) posting on our social media and tagging our customers. Please do not buy from them. Additionally, other camps please be cautious as we are not the only ones they’ve posted about.

Picture this- It’s 5:30 and the sun is just setting. You’ve got your shorts and a tshirt on. You pick up your fly rod out of the Rangeley boat bobbing in the Kennebago lake waves. You cast out from the dock and BAM first cast and you’ve already hooked a fish on the line. Another unforgettable evening at Grants Camps

17 cabins and this process only takes a day or 2. All of the linens go to the laundry mat and are stored safely. Then inside the cabins are buttoned up. The water gets shut off and pipes are drained within certain sections at a time. There’s lots of little caps/plugs and valves to open for drainage. It’s important that we close them again immediately after so when we turn the water on in the spring it doesn’t go everywhere. Keeping track of valves is probably the hardest part since some are under cabins and some are more easily accessible. There is a bit of a race to do it before snow hits the ground so it’s not hard to find them.

The docks usually come out around the time the boats are taken out. The process includes pulling up some of the mushroom anchors off the bigger docks and cleaning off any extra items. We also unscrew the ladders attached to them and leave them on the surface of the docks. The best time to do this is in the mornings before the wind picks up on the lake.

There is a cove over by Norton Brook that gets shallow as the water goes down. Before it gets too low we store all of our docks in the cove and they basically are on land after a few weeks of water levels dropping. This cove is perfect since it protects against the wind and ice. It can be a little tricky to get them there since there is only a narrow passage deep enough for us to get boats through without damaging the motors.

After the docks have been moved all of the ramps are brought further on shore to shield them from ice and we replace any of the logs and chains to prepare for easy attachment in the spring.

We have an amazing crew of the O’Conner boys and a few others who do this process each spring and fall for us and we couldn’t be more grateful for them!

As requested, here’s some clips of the work it takes to get the boats out of the water. We typically have to do this late September to early October before the water gets too low. We have a great team of people who come up and volunteer for a weekend to take them out.
The boats get stripped of all life jackets, PFDs, anchors, and motors, then are paddled over to our boat launch and hauled on shore. We also ensure that they’re up off the ground for proper airflow to help protect the wood. This process can take 1-2 days.

We’ll have more behind the scenes content coming soon!!

Would you want to see that kind of content here on Instagram too? 👀
