Find yourself in nature. 📍 Ted Turner’s legacy of restoring ecosystems was rooted in his belief that nature restores us in turn.

A trip to Vermejo is all-inclusive of meals and adventures, but most importantly, plenty of time to relax, reflect, and find yourself within the landscape. 🏞️

It pays to keep your eyes to the skies this time of year, as migratory birds return to nest and enjoy the spring and summer wildflower bloom. 🌻 Some species, like this ruby-throated hummingbird, are rare to see in New Mexico.

🐦 Vermejo is located at the Western edge of the Central Flyway, and its wide variation in elevation provides habitat for a wide diversity of birds.

Ted Turner’s conviction to help save the American bison was sparked by a National Geographic article he read as a boy. 🦬 With career success came the resources to grow that childhood inspiration into one of the largest private herds in the world, with more than 40,000 bison across 1.9 million acres of wild, working lands.

Today, these herds play an important role in restoring native grasslands, supporting wildlife habitat, and reconnecting the land to its natural rhythms. 🌱 Every guest stay helps continue this work, supporting the long-term stewardship of the landscapes and the future of bison for generations to come.

Honoring Ted Turner | Mike Mader, Manager of Turner Ranch Outfitting, was just 21 years old when he began working for Ted (though Ted often said people worked with him, not for him). He reflects on the early days and lessons that continue to guide his work today.

Return tomorrow for another reflection on Ted Turner’s lasting legacy.

It is with deep respect that we share the passing of Ted Turner, founder of Ted Turner Reserves. He passed peacefully at the age of 87.

Ted believed in something simple and powerful:

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Because of that belief, bison roam, rivers run clear, and wild places like Vermejo, Armendaris, Ladder, and Sierra Grande continue to thrive.

I had the privilege of working alongside Ted and witnessing his commitment to the land and to future generations. What he built was remarkable. What he restored was even more important.

To those of you who have walked our trails, spent quiet time on these landscapes, or felt something shift while being here—you’ve experienced his legacy.

We will carry it forward with the same integrity, courage, and care that he inspired in all of us.

Ted, we will miss you pal.

With gratitude,
Jade
