Welcome to Le Cabriolet des Artistes, located in Reno, Nevada. “Cabriolet” derives from French and is so called for its light, leaping motion in Ballet or a light, 2-wheeled Horse-drawn Carriage (which became known as “cabs” for short) or a convertible coupe car. Thus, it’s thematic meaning is: “To move lightly through space.” Visitors marvel at the serene lighting that transitions through the gar

den and the light, airy and super cozy home throughout the day. Borne of the burgeoning Nevada divorce industry, this English-gardened gem was originally just a one-bedroom home, designed to house short-term residents, who only needed to show residency for as little as six weeks, at one point. It is one of the two remaining homes where there was originally another third one of identical floor plan on the east end of the property. Rumor has been passed down through the owners that Frank Sinatra resided in one of these remaining cottages (in this riverfront neighborhood, known as: Powning’s Addition Historical District) for at least one of his divorces. Once arrived at this comfy residence on the Truckee River shoreline, you will immediately experience the special beauty of the arbored, winding English-style garden, before you enter the freshly cleaned home, as it overlooks the banks of the relaxing and invigorating flowing waters. Much of the furniture and décor are reminiscent of the historic eras in which much happiness reigned for Le Cabriolet des Artistes inhabitants. Continue to explore the meandering secret garden to discover a hidden relic of the famous (now raised) Hotel Mapes, where Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift all lived in the 1960’s to film their last film (for all 3!), called “The Misfits.”

Don’t want to go too far from the house? Just glide across the street with your fly-fishing gear* for however long you want. Or, grab your innertube/floaty thingy… Or your kayak…* Or walk a quarter-mile to Idlewild Park for Food Truck Fridays during the summer, the community pool, picnicking, hiking and more. Walk in the opposite direction along the Riverwalk to discover an easy ten-minute stroll to Mid-Town restaurants, hotels, casinos, nightlife, multi-cinema, coffee houses and shopping Attend the many, ongoing city- sponsored events such as Hot August Nights, free concerts and more. Make Le Cabriolet des Artistes your last stop before, or your oasis return… from Burning Man, or mountain and desert excursions of any kind. A non-removable guide for “101 Thing to do in Reno Before You Die” is supplied in the home for your leisurely perusal. Book your reservation early, as this is a favorite, even for the local Reno-ites! The home’s centennial anniversary (2034) is coming up!

At Sammy’s grave, Dean Martin didn’t just lose a friend — he lost a part of himself. That moment wasn’t history… it was heartbreak unfolding in silence.

Some bonds don’t end. They just break the people left behind.

On July 20, 1960, Marilyn Monroe arrived in Reno, Nevada during the production period of the film The Misfits. The visit marked an important moment in Monroe’s career, as the project brought together several legendary figures of classic Hollywood. The film was directed by John Huston and written by acclaimed playwright Arthur Miller, who was Monroe’s husband at the time. Filming in the Nevada desert and surrounding areas began in July 1960, with Reno serving as a key location for both production and cast accommodations. Monroe’s arrival attracted considerable attention from local residents and journalists, reflecting her status as one of the most famous actresses in the world during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

During the Reno production, Monroe worked alongside two prominent Hollywood actors: Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. The story followed a group of modern cowboys and drifters in the American West, blending Western themes with emotional drama. Monroe portrayed Roslyn Taber, a recently divorced woman who forms an unexpected bond with Gable’s aging cowboy character, Gay Langland. The cast spent several weeks filming in remote Nevada locations during the summer heat of 1960, creating an atmosphere that would later contribute to the film’s powerful and reflective tone.

When the film was released in February 1961, it became historically significant as the final completed film for both Monroe and Gable. Clark Gable passed away in November 1960 shortly after filming ended, and Monroe’s life ended in August 1962. Today, photographs documenting Monroe’s arrival in Reno on July 20, 1960 remain important visual records of the production, capturing the beginning of a film that would later become one of the most poignant works of Hollywood’s classic era.
