In the summer of 2013, brothers Jim and Don Gibson purchased a classic but dirty piece of Reno history, the 43 room Morris Hotel. In 2008, Jim "Jungle Jim" Gibson joined the Burning Man community and was profoundly moved and changed by the experience. Jim, 2011 Temple of Transition project lead Chris "Kiwi" Hankins, Vision (Alon Bar) and a crew of amazing Burners from around the world have transfo

rmed the hotel into a giant piece of permanent Burner art and it is truly changing the world. It has space for 19 live-in artists, 13 Burner designed hotel rooms, indoor and outdoor performance venues, and is just plain amazing! It is like living the best part of the Playa all year, where we live by the 10 principles every day. We hope you will come visit and see for yourself, and like everyone else, leave saying, OMG, this is simply the best spot ever, it's like being at Burning Man! We are a Membership facility, with membership dues allowing almost all of our events to be free, we can offer free rooms for artists from anywhere in the world in our Artist Residency program, and do community outreach work almost every day. If you are interested in visiting, living here, or want to help us by becoming a member, visit our web site, www.MorrisBurnerHotel.com and check us out. This is a subject near and dear to Gemini's heart. Check out this blog post and join us next Tuesday at 6pm where we will talk about Principles of Consent, developing a personal safety plan and bystander intervention!

This is SO, SO important for all of us!

While much of the focus around Burning Man is on the awe-inspiring creativity and celebratory nature of the event, it is important to recognize that reprehensible actions, while rare, do happen in our desert community — and that includes sexual...

And WOW!! Things seem to get earlier, each year! It's time for the annual FAQ post ALREADY!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read this important information before sending anything or making any assumptions about what might be okay if you are reserved or are planning to crash the Morris on your way out to or back from Black Rock City this year!!

In short, don't send your blinky things or awesome costume piece to us, don't assume you can leave your car here while you are at the burn, and please don't give us your trash before you go home! We also have capacity issues! We will help if we can, but ASK FIRST!!

Thanks!

And now, kiddies, let’s list some FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS that occur when the Morris welcomes the world through our doors prior to Burning Man! We will generally help you in whatever way we can, but have had to set some limits based on our own space limitations. Thanks for understanding and her...

Cut to the chase, you'll run the lobby and check in neat and interesting people from all over the world.

Lobby hours run 9am till 10pm with occasionally doing a late night check in.

You'll enter booking info onto our reservation software, give tours of the hostel and grounds, maintain a pleasent look of the hostel, answering phones, serving the needs of the hostel, and meeting neat folks.

We are burner culture based and work hard to stay true to that path. It's a great job for a student or artist.

Our Story

2019 marks SIX YEARS since the beginning of this crazy, zany ride we’ve been on. We’ve learned so much, and it’s a never-ending process. In 2017, we decided to re-brand the “hotel” as a “hostel”. Because of the era of the hotel, it seemed to lend itself better to hostel-brand experience and it’s always been our goal to welcome international guests!

We now boast 17 themed art rooms and one awesome abstract hallway, completed in the Spring of 2018. In July 2018, we cleaned up four more “blank canvas” rooms ready to be adopted by eager artists on the third floor!! We have three on-site live-in staff. Now we are fond of saying “knowing the 10 Principles will get you in the door. How you live them (or not) will determine how long you stay.”

We hope you will come visit and see for yourself, and like everyone else, leave saying, OMG, this is simply the best spot ever, it's like being at Burning Man without the dust! We are a Membership facility, with membership dues allowing almost all of our events to be free or low cost, we can offer free rooms for artists from anywhere in the world in our Artist Residency program, and do community outreach work several times a week.
