I’m not sure how it got to be the middle of March already, but here we are. It’s been a busy winter here at the ranch .

We’re roughly two thirds the way through calving with around 425 calves so far. Winter has been mild without much snow, so it’s been good weather for calving and keeping them healthy. The horses have wintered well too.

It won’t be many weeks, and we’ll start branding the older calves. And, it won’t be many more weeks beyond that, and guest season will be here! We’re looking forward to new adventures and new memories with our friends and extended family.

Here it is, almost Thanksgiving. Guest season is over. The calves have been weaned. The cows are home and preg tested. The saddles have been put away for the winter, and the horses are getting some much deserved time off.
Soon, the calves will be shipped and we will start getting things ready for the new crop of calves. For now, days are spent feeding, strawing corrals, and looking for those last strays that are still wanting to play hide and seek.
We had a great summer and want to take this opportunity to let you know how thankful we are for all of our guests and extended family. We appreciate you all and look forward to seeing everyone next season!

Summer has been busy here at the ranch. The guests have been busy moving cows, looking for strays, putting out salt, helping doctor sick animals, and I think they even added a little fence mending in the mix.
When not out on the mountain, some of the guests got to try their hand at branding some of the youngest calves and newly purchased cows here at the ranch. They also have been good help with feeding the bottle calves and other daily tasks.
Carson”s been great help with taking the guests to the mountains. He’s good natured and a great cowboy. I’m always hearing good things about him from the guests, like he is a lot of fun, but also very respectful of people. I know we sure enjoy having him here and appreciate his help.
On a personal note, Tyler and Alison welcomed a baby girl in July, adding to the herd of Derk and Tina’s grandkids. She’s a beauty, just like her mom.

Just a quick update.

We spent the day Wednesday, branding calves. We had a big crew and got 460 calves branded , vaccinated, and ready for pasture when it’s ready for them! We still have the younger calves to brand when they’re big enough plus there’s still about 60 cows that haven’t calved yet. All together there will be around another 150 calves to brand.

Now, it’s time to get things ready for guest season to start in a few short weeks.

Just a quick update from the ranch. Calving season is in full swing. We have passed the 200 mark, so about a third the way done. The guys have been busy!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from your McGarry Ranch Family!

It’s been a busy couple of months since guest season came to a close.

The cows are home, vaccinated and preg tested. We had a few early calves, but the rest should start coming towards the middle of January.

Last year’s calf crop was weaned, then sold and loaded on semis to go to their new owners. We had some really nice calves this year and are hoping for another good crop this season.

Carson’s been helping out while he’s home from college. He’s been fixing corrals, water troughs, helping feed, and whatever else needs done. He’s been good help and is always fun to have around. We sure have appreciated his help.

We’ll keep you posted on the calving progress once we get a good start on it.

In the meantime, we wish everyone a blessed holiday season. We miss you all.

As we creep into fall we are always amazed at the beauty of the Idaho mountains! also how much work comes along with it, between getting cows gathered letting fence down and keeping things fed we sometimes forget to remember how blessed we are with this lifestyle! We also want to thank all who have came to visit this summer and the last two weeks to come we love you all!

What an awesome week to start off the 2024 guest season full of laughs and lots of work excited for what blessings this year will bring!

It's been a busy 3 months here at the ranch. We started calving the last part of January. We have over 450 on the ground, and about 130 left to get. It's been a good season and the calves have stayed healthy and are growing fast. Derk and Hadley have done the biggest share of calving this year, and Braiden keeps the cows and horses fed, and does the doctoring. All three of them have been working hard to keep things going. And we all appreciate when Derk and Tina's grandkids come help out.

We took advantage of a decent day this past Friday and branded and vaccinated all of the older calves, so a good portion of them is done and ready to go to the mountains, when the time comes. We had a lot of good help, good ropers, and good horses to get the job done.

It's hard to believe we are almost to April already. They say time flies when you're having fun. Well, I can't say calving season is all that much fun, but the time sure has flown by. It won't be long now, and we will be welcoming our friends and extended family back. We are all looking forward to seeing everyone again soon!!

Happy 2024 from the Ranch! All of us here hope you all have a healthy and happy year!

2023 was a busy year for us here. We had a wonderful and busy guest season and, as always, we enjoyed our time with old friends and new.

I'd like to mention a special cowboy. Dave and Sara have been coming to the ranch for decades and are very special to all of us here. Cowboy Dave lost his battle with cancer in September. We all loved him, and he will be sorely missed.

On a happier note, Braiden and Emily added another baby boy, Bronc, to the herd of grandkids. Needless to say, he is just as cute as the rest of them.

The cows have been home awhile now, and last year's calves have been sold and shipped. The cows have been preg tested, and soon, we will be having a whole new crop of baby calves.

Winter has been pretty mild so far, and not much snow. I'm sure one of these days, that will all change, but for now we are enjoying it not being as cold as it normally is.

We are looking forward to the next year, and the adventures it will bring. And, as always, we look forward to guest season starting again, come spring.
