Celebrating Christmas and New Years at The Lake House is magical. (Really any time of year can feel that way, because we leave the lights up all year long 💗)

Here’s where to go and what to do for a fun- filled, yet relaxing winter week at Lake Wateree:

✨ Day1: Settle in. Maybe drop a line in the water to catch some fish, enjoy a campfire by the dock.

✨ Day 2: Christmas shopping in Ridgeway. There’s a great thrift store, a boutique, hardware store, and more. Enjoy dinner there while you’re out.

✨ Day 3: Head to Camden and Lugoff to finish your shopping. There you’ll find more thrift and antique stores, as well as your big-box stores. Celebrate with lakeside dining at restaurant. Then enjoy a cozy fire in the wood burning stove before bed.

✨ Day 4: Take Hwy 21 north to Rocky Creek Trail for a short hike. Then watch the sunset while eating dinner and listening to live music.

✨ Day 5: Launch your kayaks from the property and paddle over to Dutchman Marina or the state park. You can also rent a boat at Dutchman Marina or put yours in the water and cruise to the dam.

✨ Day 6: Take it easy. Work a puzzle, read a book, watch some movies. Grill out on the gas or charcoal grill.

Cheers to SEVEN years! 🎉 On this day in 2018 we became the owners of The Lake House. It truly was a life-changing event. Through the floods, the droughts, literally the highs and the lows, this has been one of the best decisions we have ever made. We are so thankful for all of you who have been on this journey with us 💗

Who knew this little cabin would become the place for hundreds of travelers to disconnect from everyday life, and reconnect with each other?

We sure didn’t.

When we purchased this property in 2018, we had already made great memories at Lake Wateree State Park, and we knew we wanted to invest in our own place where we could make more.

Soon after we closed on the property, I decided to list it on Airbnb, “just to see” what would happen. To my surprise, it has been booked pretty much ever since.

Last night I re-read all the entries in our guest books from all the people who have stayed here in the last 6+ years. It reminded me what a blessing this place has turned out to be, not just for us and our family, but for so many more.

Even through COVID and an 18-month dam project that left our cove dry, people have come here to enjoy nature, and time together.

It now holds a special place in our hearts, and the hearts of so many others. The circle of gratitude from us to our guests, and back to us, just goes round and round.

It’s a special place, made more special by all the people who have made, and continue to make, memories here 〰️💗〰️

Our 2-bedroom lakeside cabin at Lake Wateree, SC, serves our guests in so many ways. Some are looking for respite and solitude. Some come for the fishing. Some want to reconnect with family and friends. Some love the kayaking and boat life.

She serves us in all the same ways. We’re so grateful we took a leap of faith nearly seven years ago, and welcomed her into our life. And we’re so grateful to all of you, who share our love for her.

It’s back! Dutchman Creek Marina re-opened this weekend after rebuilding from a fire several years ago. The new owners celebrated their grand opening with live music and a food truck. The store and fuel pumps will be ready and open next week! We are so happy to have them back in the neighborhood 🙌
